Sommerberg Funicular Railway

The Sommerbergbahn (Sommerberg Funicular Railway) has been whisking travelers to the Sommerberg Plateau from Bad Wildbad for over 100 years. The Sommerbergbahn journeys through the lush vegetation of the Black Forest for a few minutes to reach the 1,063-foot (324-meter) plateau. From there, visitors can feast their eyes on sweeping views of the Black Forest as far as the eye can see.

4. The Fautsburg

Ruins of the 11th-century Fautsburg Castle perch on an elevated ridge between the two rivers Kleine Enz and Enz, hidden away in the dense vegetation of the Black Forest. While the original residential quarters, walls, moats, gates, and courtyard have succumbed to time, the tower still stands proudly. This small castle was used as a secret abode and later as a quarry, and still has a mysterious charm. Travelers can hike to the Fautsburg from Rehmühle, Hünerberg, and Meistern, along well-marked pathways.

Hohloh Tower

The Black Forest is all about breathtaking views, and the Hohloh Tower offers a generous dose of them. The Hohloh Mountain is located just outside Bad Wildbad, near the mountain hamlet of Kaltenbronn, and boasts an observation tower at a height of 3,320 feet (1,012 meters). From here, visitors enjoy an uninterrupted panorama of the Murg Valley, Palatine Forest, Odenwald, and Swabian Jura. On clear days, it is possible to see the Swiss Alps and the Vosges Mountains in France. The tower can be reached by mountain bikes or by trekking along broad, safe paths.

Between 1864 and 1967, the Kurtheater presented legendary opera singers, actors, and musicians to packed, enthralled audiences. After being left in disrepair for over 20 years, the historic theater got a new lease of life in 1987.
