A gorgeous spa resort set in the midst of beautiful nature that offers medicinal thermal baths, rural peace, the chance to walk the treetops, adrenaline-pumping sports, and generous doses of culture: it sounds like a dream holiday destination that is too good to be true. Fortunately, Bad Wildbad, an idyllic town in Germany’s Black Forest, offers all this and more. Let’s take a look at the most awesome things Bad Wildbad has in store for you.

Sommerberg Funicular Railway

The Sommerbergbahn (Sommerberg Funicular Railway) has been whisking travelers to the Sommerberg Plateau from Bad Wildbad for over 100 years. The Sommerbergbahn journeys through the lush vegetation of the Black Forest for a few minutes to reach the 1,063-foot (324-meter) plateau. From there, visitors can feast their eyes on sweeping views of the Black Forest as far as the eye can see.

Hohloh Tower

The Black Forest is all about breathtaking views, and the Hohloh Tower offers a generous dose of them. The Hohloh Mountain is located just outside Bad Wildbad, near the mountain hamlet of Kaltenbronn, and boasts an observation tower at a height of 3,320 feet (1,012 meters). From here, visitors enjoy an uninterrupted panorama of the Murg Valley, Palatine Forest, Odenwald, and Swabian Jura. On clear days, it is possible to see the Swiss Alps and the Vosges Mountains in France. The tower can be reached by mountain bikes or by trekking along broad, safe paths.

Winter Sports

Come winter, Bad Wildbad wraps itself in its snowy blanket, inviting athletes to indulge in thrilling winter sport activities. The most popular winter sports resorts here are Sommerberg, Kaltenbronn, and Aichelberg. Aichelberg and the adjacent Meistern boast 20 signposted snowshoe trails, while Sommerberg and Kaltenbronn offer some excellent skiing opportunities.

Summer Sports

On glorious summer days, active travelers have a wide range of sports options to choose from. Get on your mountain bike or electric bike and hit the thrilling trails of Nagoldtal Valley or Enztal Valley, or explore the picturesque town on a segway. The unique moor in the upland plateau between the Sommerberg and Kaltenbronn mountains is an excellent spot for rambling, while the Enztal valley is great for Nordic walking. The sky is the limit when you are in Bad Wildbad, as you will also have the chance to treat yourself to the exhilarating experience of paragliding over the clouds.
