From Michelin-starred restaurants to local fare by the water’s edge, Lake Constance has many amazing restaurants to take diners on a journey around the gastronomic cultures of the European region. Here are some of the best.
If you’re looking for an upscale restaurant right by the lake, Heinzler am See is one of the best. With lovely outdoor seating under the trees, the menu has everything from local pork roast with homemade Spätzle or baked Bodensee Felchen fish with homemade tartare sauce.
Located in the hinterlands of Lake Constance, in a small village surrounded by pastures and farmland, Biohotel Mohren is inspired by its surroundings and has an organic outlook. In the cozy hotel restaurant you’ll find German classics made with the best local ingredients, including some of the best Schnitzel you’re ever likely to taste!
Another excellent hotel restaurant (in the Residenz am See), Casala is not only a favorite for its upscale menu and décor, but also its view of the lake. Classic dishes are prepared with seasonal ingredients, and the interior has an upmarket feel.
This unassuming village restaurant in a traditional German timber house has been chosen by Michelin as one of the region’s best restaurants. From the windows, diners can see sheep grazing on the pasture next door. The menu contains excellent dishes, such as grilled entrecote with herb couscous, and lamb filet in a port wine sauce.
Part of the very modern RIVA Hotel am Bodensee, Ophelia is an upscale restaurant where classics are reinterpreted by Head Chef Dirk Hoberg and his team. The tasting menu includes unique dishes such as pigeon with kohlrabi rice, and bison with green asparagus, eggplant, and potato.
Another excellent restaurant that’s right by the water, Seehalde is much more than a charming hotel with its own beach. The menu focuses on seafood, with delicious options like a Bouillabaisse made from local fish, or local fish fillets with baked vegetables. There’s also a special tasting menu for two that explores Bodensee fish varieties through innovative dishes.
This restaurant with one Michelin star is run by Chef Jochen Fecht and his partner Thomas Haist, who have turned a period building in the middle of Konstanz into a gastronomy haven. The sophisticated tasting menu has everything from coq au vin with local white asparagus to whole wild turbot baked in a special salt dough.
A casual hotel restaurant in the village of Hagnau, Rebstöckle surprise with excellent dishes that belie the simple décor. The special three-course menu includes terrine of local chicken, a pork Piccata in a Parmesan shell with basil pasta, and mousse and baked flan for dessert.
This classy German Landgasthof (country inn) has a very cozy restaurant, with outdoor seating that looks out over the beautiful valley. On the menu are all those hearty German classics like homemade Bratwurst and Baden-style cheese Spätzle.
Located on the island of Reichenau, the Ganta Restaurant Mohren is a great place to head for lunch after touring the UNESCO-listed island churches. Haute cuisine dishes made from local and seasonal ingredients are served in an ambience that is quite romantic, with ornate touches and candlelight.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
