St Tropez is an old fishing village with a reputation for great seafood restaurants in fantastic settings. Here’s our guide on where you can find laid-back beach bars serving fresh, grilled fish as well as chic, upmarket restaurants serving oysters and champagne.

1. La Bouillabaisse Plage

Restaurant, Seafood

Situated on one of three beaches in St Tropez, La Bouillabaisse has a reputation for great seafood and is a firm favourite for locals and tourists alike. Check out Facebook for daily specials.

2. Le Migon

Restaurant, French

The restaurant Migon sits underneath the impressive Cap Camarat lighthouse, at the water’s edge. It’s a more low-key, beach-side option than some of the flashier St Tropez restaurants. A place to relax with some fresh fish and a nice bottle of wine. It has both a snack bar and an “à la carte” option.

3. Le Girelier

Restaurant, French, European, Seafood, Mediterranean

Le Girelier on the main quay is the grand-daddy of all seafood restaurants in town. Both chefs, David Didelot and Laurent Simon, have been in residence for the past nine years, earning lots of praise from tourists, regulars and the Michelin guide. It has a great selection of wines.

4. Chez Madeleine

Restaurant, Seafood

Chez Madeleine is a family restaurant at the heart of St Tropez life. This place isn’t open late. Instead, it’s the place you go to for an “apéritif” – a little something before dinner. Try some oysters and rosé wine before a night out.

5. Les Viviers du Pilon

Restaurant, French, European, Seafood, Mediterranean

Les Viviers du Pilon is a little way out of the town centre but an easy walk from anywhere central. This is upmarket seafood gastronomy in the most beautiful of settings, so dress appropriately and take the credit card.

6. Bagatelle Beach Club

Brasserie, Restaurant, French, Seafood, Mediterranean

The Bagatelle Beach Club is located on Nikki Beach, just outside of town. People love this place for its lively atmosphere and amazing dishes like seabass and artichoke ravioli, lovingly prepared by head chef Nicolas Cantrel. The same company runs similar places in Brazil and the US. They also host DJs and fashion shows.

7. El Mas Tapas

Restaurant, Seafood

El Mas is a small, local tapas bar that is popular with locals. The husband and wife team are cheerful and the food is great.

8. Café de Paris

Restaurant, Seafood

The Café de Paris has been around since 1930, serving cool drinks to a discerning quay-side clientele. People love its sushi.
