In the past few years, the number of barbershops in Paris has blown up as the capital’s men have turned back to traditional techniques to achieve their modern looks. The 10 spots on this shortlist give the best haircuts, shaves and trims in town and many of them have also branched out into other areas, offering top-of-the-range cosmetics, spa treatments, shaving equipment, and even ready-to-wear fashion.

Gentlemen 1919

The Gentlemen 1919 concept store opened in April 2016. The 150 m2 space is styled like a Prohibition era backroom, with dark wood, leather, and a touch of steel, and includes a barbershop, bar, and small shop where the modern man can pick up his grooming essentials. A cut and style costs €39 and you can add on €2 for shampooing. A traditional shave, whether it’s of your face or head, is priced at €41 and a scissor cut for your beard costs just €22.

La Barbière de Paris

Sarah Daniel-Hamizi will go down in history as France’s first female barber. She opened her own barbershop back in 2000 and since then La Barbière de Paris has grown into one of the biggest and most highly regarded businesses in the city. In 2016, the brand launched its own range of grooming products and this will be developed in 2017, starting with the introduction of the Soin Action Totale beard care product on March 1. Additionally, a new location will be opening in the 6th arrondissement this spring.

La Clé du Barbier

The Linné address was the first of the La Clé du Barbier stores to open in August 2013. Overlooking the Jardin des Plantes in the 5th arrondissement, this New York loft-style barbershop has everything a man needs to look and feel great. The second location on the stylish rue Saint Honoré is also equipped with a barista and shoe shiner. A shampoo, cut, and style or a traditional shave will set you back just €32 and €5 more if you opt for VIP treatment. Prices for waxes (eyebrows, nose etc.) begin at only €6.

TAG Barber Shop

TAG Barber Shop is a reasonably priced hair salon for men with a retro-chic atmosphere. For a 30-minute shampoo, cut, and style, you’ll pay €29 or if you’re a student just €24. A traditional shave (head or face) is also €29. A mustache trim is €10 and for beards it costs €22 for a trim with clippers, €28 for one with a razor, and €25 to do the job with wax.

Les Mauvais Garçons

Les Mauvais Garçons opened in 1997 in the now trendy Oberkampf district. The business, which started with just two vintage armchairs, has grown to include three shops and corners in some of the city’s most luxurious boutiques and department stores. Their traditional shave costs €30 and the price of a trim is €14. A haircut costs €29 at the original Oberkampf location and its annex on rue Neuve Popincourt and €1 more on the Île Saint-Louis.

Les Thermes de Lutece by Zvonko

The mother and daughter team of Isma and Amanda Calek are behind Les Thermes de Lutece by Zvonko, an innovative body and facial care center that uses only ecological and organic cosmetics. Housed in a 16th-century building on the riverfront, the spa is open to both men and women. A traditional shave, cut, shampoo, and blow-dry, and head shave are all priced at €35. A full male waxing service costs €22 and spa treatments range from €49 to €149.

V.B.S.

Opened in June 2015 by three childhood friends, V.B.S. is a unique destination for men in Paris. This concept store in the 10th arrondissement, the design of which is part industrial and part vintage, combines grooming services with ready-to-wear fashion and accessories. Services to be enjoyed in the 1920s Koch barber chairs (imported from New York) include a scissor haircut for €35 and clipper cut for €20, a traditional facial shave for €40, and a beard trim for €25.

L’Atelier Gentlemen

This Montmartre barbershop specializes in hot towel treatments and precision scissor cuts. L’Atelier Gentlemen also has a lounge in which you can relax with a drink before or after your appointment. A haircut and style is priced at €35 with a €2 supplement for shampooing and coloring starts at €25. For beards, a shave costs €37 and a scissor trim just €19. Beard shaping, for goatees and suchlike, costs €14 and you can have your nose and ear hair removed for €25.

Planète Rasoir

Planète Rasoir is first and foremost a specialist store for manual and electric shaving equipment, though it also stocks a wide range of cosmetics. However, it also includes a barber stand where you can get a haircut, traditional shave, or beard trim in the hands of people who know their tools inside out. Planète Rasoir turned 50 last year and for its 35th birthday back in 2001 the store was completely refurbished.
