With around half of its population under the age of 30 and a booming student scene, Montpellier offers up an amazing nightlife, time and time again. Here are our top ten spots in and around the city centre not to be missed.

JAM

School

JAM is a music school in Montpellier, which also plays host to music gigs throughout the year. Soul, funk, acoustic… A wide range of concerts are constantly up for grabs, just make sure you book in enough time.

Barberousse

Bar

A popular rum bar in France – with other locations including Paris and Marseilles – Barberousse translates to ‘Red Beard’ and is a pirate-themed hang-out. Dimply lit and decked out in lots of wood and barrels, it is open until 1am and, of course, rum is the main treasure on the menu.

Trinque Fougasse O'Sud

Trinque Fougasse O’Sud is located in the trendy neighbourhood of Port Marianne. With views of the Bassin Jacques Coeur and under palm trees, the wine list here is extensive and the terrace area is great in the warmer months. Open until midnight, it makes for a great night out just outside the central area of Montpellier.

Papa Doble

Bar, Cocktail Bar

Papa Doble is a vintage, tropical bar paying homage to Ernest Hemingway‘s Havana. Sip on a Hemingway Daiquiri, be impressed by a Blonde Bombshell, savour a Papa’s Summer Cup in this arched, cosy cocktail bar. https://instagram.com/p/BZepruFh9PM/

Le Rebuffy

Pub

The Rebuffy pub occupies one of the most gorgeous terraces in Montpellier. Fairy lights are strung between the large trees, chairs and tables are jammed side-by-side on the cobbles, beautiful old buildings stand as the backdrop. The prices are very reasonable here, too.

Rockstore

Easily recognisable thanks to the large red car boot sticking out over the entrance way, Rockstore has been providing Montpellier with an underground music scene since 1986.

L' Antirouille

Music Venue, Train Station

Another live music venue in Montpellier, a stone’s-throw away from the central train station. Just a door off the street, like most nighttime haunts, all the magic happens below ground in this cosy venue.

Jungle Pub

Pub, Bar, African, Cuban

Jungle Pub is a little out of the centre of Montpellier, but well worth the quick commute. Dressed in bamboo and lots of plants, the specialty here is themed nights. Everything from Caribbean to African and Cuban to Argentinean, so make sure you’re up for a lively night.

Apothicaire

Bar

Apothicaire is what Montpellier does best: a bijoux-size bar dressed in stone and tasteful French décor. Quick bites earlier, DJ sets later and always a few themed nights (how everyone loves Halloween drinks!) thrown in between.

Los Parigos

Bar, Cocktail Bar

A well-known and well-loved cocktail bar in the heart of Montpellier’s old town. Serving tapas and other delicious bites, eat, drink and be merry under drapes and chandeliers in one of the city’s most vibrant spots.
