It’s all about minimalism, natural materials and an artisan touch at Le Chalet. There are 12 suites and a three-bedroom cottage, inside which you’ll find muted colour palettes, wooden and stone furnishings and fireplaces, alongside hand-picked antiques and artwork. At restaurant La Ferme de mon Père, the focus is on local, fresh and seasonal cuisine. Try the velouté and crisps of Jerusalem artichokes with black truffle chantilly, or the liquorice-flavoured frogs legs.

The chalets of the five-star Alpaga reveal themselves at the edge of a snowy winding road, clustered around the main chalet and restaurant. A good boutique hotel is all about character, and Lodge Park has that in spades. The bustling lodge has a log table and fireplace at its core, the dimmed lighting offering an intensely warm aesthetic. Rooms are dressed with Scottish tartans and playful exotic textures – think leather headboards and gold, crisp-white bed linens. There’s even an in-house steak restaurant.

Hotel Le Gai Soleil

Budget Hotel

Built by a Megevan family in 1927, the Hotel Gai Soleil was one of the first hotels in Megève. There have only been four different owners, so it’s no surprise that the focus here is on the personal touch and family-friendly atmosphere. The rooms have an old-fashioned alpine comfort, even through their contemporary design, and chef Alain Cuteri is an expert of local specialities – from fondue with Mont D’or, raclette, tartiflette and crozets de savoie.

Les Loges Blanches

Boutique Hotel

The big wooden chalets of Les Loges Blanches may as well be plucked right out of an old alpine fairytale. A little village of lodges, the 61 rooms and suites have been recently renovated. There’s a modern comfort paired with the traditional wooden furnishings. Enjoy a few laps of the heated outdoor pool after a day on the mountain, followed by a stint in the Nordic sauna. La Table des Cochers restaurant is charming all over, packed with old ski decor and serving up elegant Savoyard flavours.

Hôtel Le Fer à Cheval

A hotel 250 metres from the Chamois gondola, Le Fer à Cheval is a five-star winter wonderland. The rooms are modern with a mountain feel, provided by the wooden walls, doors and backboards. There are two restaurants, one for traditional alpine food, the other, l’Alpage, for authentic Savoie specialities. If you like cheese, then the latter is the place to go.

The Arboisie is at the foot of the mountain it takes its name from. It was renovated back in 2017 – now, as well as the wood and glass chalets topped with stone roof tiles, you’ve got the Chez Jean restaurant, gourmet and family-friendly, and Le Cellier, for local Savoyard produce. Head to the Deep Nature Spa at the end of the day for luxury massages and treatments.

Les Fermes de Marie

Les Fermes de Marie is almost a village in itself – a selection of beautifully restored wooden houses have been modernised, though still in keeping with their surroundings. Expect tartan prints, wooden beams, open fires and cosy blankets in all of the rooms. These vary from the cosy ‘Classic’ to the huge ‘Prestige’, and all have spectacular mountain views. The spa is one of Europe’s best, and includes an enormous array of both a dry and wet wood-clad sauna, indoor lap pool as well as an outside hot tub. It also houses one of the area’s top restaurants, perfect for an easy night in after a day on the slopes.

Flocons de Sel

Hotel

Flocons de Sel is another five-star hotel and home to a three-Michelin-starred restaurant as well. There are just eight rooms and two private apartments, all decorated in a pretty contemporary mountain style. Think: wooden-panelled rooms, stoves, furs and huge windows overlooking the Alps. Wood, stone, and glass are used throughout to fuse the modern with the classical and natural. Impeccable service, spacious yet cosy rooms, and an excellent spa come together in one amazing alpine package.

Chalet d'Antoine

Hotel

Some might say that this hotel is starting to show its age but, in Megève, a lived-in look adds glamour, not tiredness. With its white frontage and wood-panelling, the hotel has a classic mountain vibe. The thing that sets this hotel apart from its competitors, though, is its service. Staff are friendly, cheerful and attentive, which makes all the difference in a foreign locale. Rooms are great for the price, all have ensuite bathrooms, and there’s a cute dining room with open fireplace, a lounge, bar, massage room, and boot room, making this one of the best value hotels in Megève.

Au Coin du Feu

Hotel

The name of this hotel means ‘in the corner by the fire’, a suitably rustic and cosy name for the hotel. When you return from the slopes, you’ll generally find the fire going in the lounge, and can settle down with a pot of tea and cake. Decor is traditional – lots of wooden panelling and red/white fabrics, with a refined, warm atmosphere. The classic double rooms are on the small side, so it might be beneficial to upgrade to a suite. However, with the nearby lifts and ski storage, you might not be spending much time in the hotel at all.

Chalet du Mont d'Arbois

Resort, Hotel

A few kilometres from the village centre, this five-star hotel is, in fact, housed over three different chalets. The rooms feel alpine, pairing fur throws with antique art and objects. It’s a bit larger than some of the more bijou hotels in the region, and boasts an impressive spa, a restaurant and bar, plus several sister restaurants around the resort. You can even hire a horse-drawn carriage to take you through the village or a helicopter safari to nearby Flaine, Courmayeur, Courchevel or Val d’Isere.

Hotel Mont-Blanc Megève

Hotel

Several-storied but squat, this building stands out from its surroundings, a classic hotel with a great ambience. Rooms are plushly decorated with comfortable beds and wood panelling, sitting alongside cool bathrooms and modern furnishings. They can veer towards the small end of the scale, so if that bothers you try asking for a Prestige room or larger. Rooms on the upper floors also offer some of the best views of Megève that you can get. Le Georges champagne lounge is the Edwardian island in the alpine sea, a lovely tea room that brings a spot of Bohemia to your skiing.

Hotel la Chaumine

A small B&B run by Mathieu and Marine Socquet, this chalet is only a few hundred metres from Megève’s main thoroughfare, but retains a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Once his grandfather’s farm, now Hotel la Chaumine, Mathieu is on hand to offer the best recommendations in Megève. The light wood interior, coupled with views of the valley, creates a postcard scene, especially if you’re in one of the rooms with a balcony.

Le M de Megeve

A high-class affair in the centre of Megève, this hotel boasts two restaurants, a bar, swimming pool and Clarins spa. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, it lives up to the label with two-Michelin-starred chef Edouard Loubet designing the menu. The junior suites are good for families or larger groups with plenty of space, while the Royal Suite has its own open fire for a romantic getaway.
