1. Oh! My Cup

Oh! My Cup

A typically French Sunday brunch is offered in this cozy tearoom. It is located close to Clermont-Ferrand’s imposing Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, which is made entirely out of black lava stone. Baguettes, croissants, scones, bagels, and pastries are on the menu – all baked in-house – as well as toast, egg casserole, and salad. Orange juice and a hot drink are provided to help everything go down smoothly. The meal ends with a helping of natural yogurt and muesli. Booking in advance at Oh! My Cup is recommended.

Chef Pierre and front-of-house Sébastien aim to evoke some childhood memories at Les Kancres with their classroom-themed bistro. Blackboards, schoolbooks, and antique desks contribute to the atmosphere, but luckily there isn’t a teacher in sight. That leaves you free to enjoy the brunch buffet of cereal, scrambled eggs, potatoes, cold meats, sausages, house salad, and quiches. There are plenty of dessert choices as well. Take your pick from pancakes, pies, croissants, muffins, and pains au chocolat.

3. Au Poivre d’Âne

If you’re in a rush or just fancy a light bite for breakfast, consider dropping in to Au Poivre d’Âne. Have a coffee, a glass of orange juice, and toast with butter and jam. This restaurant, located in the La Pardieu area of Clermont-Ferrand, has a chic yet understated design as well as conservatory seating that offers views of the city. They also have a good selection of wines here from Auvergne, Loire, Rhône, Bourgogne, Languedoc, Bordeaux, and Champagne.

Catering for the globetrotters among us, Impreza is a restaurant specializing in international cuisine that serves brunches containing flavors from all over the world. The African brunch comes with marinated chicken skewers, tomato chutney, ginger rice, red beans, and fried bananas, while the other countries represented on the menu are Lebanon, Greece, India, England, America, and Indonesia. Each brunch comes with a drink and a dessert (choices include panna cotta, crème brûlée, tiramisu, and a banana flambée). This makes for a bargain.

This charming little cafe sells breakfasts to eat in or take away, and provides a welcoming environment for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Have a read of the day’s newspapers while dining on homemade pastries, cakes, sandwiches, and soups. Make sure to try the flat white, a beverage originating from Down Under that consists of creamy, steamed milk with small, fine bubbles (“microfoam”) poured over an espresso shot. This creates a velvety texture that separates the flat white from a cappuccino or latte.

6. La BerGamoThée

La BerGamoThée

La BerGamoThée is an interesting venture in Clermont-Ferrand. The team behind this vegetarian and vegan tearoom organize cultural events and activities like debates, readings, exhibitions, workshops, and concerts that support and promote animal rights, women’s rights, and the LGBT community. The brunch menu is composed mostly of local and organic produce. It features delicious choices like mushroom, Emmental, and oregano pies and dhal lentils with basmati rice and soy and quinoa soup. The yogurt and sorbet come in a bevy of flavors: bergamot, mandarin, citron, raspberry, ginger, pear, and lemon, to name but a few.
