The Best Hotels to Book in Morzine, France for Every Traveller
From cosy Savoyard chalets to architectural Avoriaz gems, these are the best hotels in Morzine to rest your head after a day skiing.
Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil ski network, made up of 13 ski resorts split between France and Switzerland that offer a jaw-dropping 650km (404mi) of pistes. Being just over an hour from Geneva airport, it’s particularly popular with British skiers and is a busy, bubbling little alpine town – think wooden chalets and surrounding mountains with high forest lines. Après-ski is a lively affair here. From town, the Pléney lift will take you up to the skiing in Morzine itself and across to Les Gets, while the Super Morzine lift on the Montriond side of the valley will take you to Avoriaz and beyond. Here’s our guide on where to stay.
Hotel l'Igloo
Hotel
Despite what the name might suggest, Hotel l’Igloo is not, in fact, an igloo, but a family-owned, wooden-built hotel. The rooms have a traditional alpine feel, thanks to the wooden backboards, beams and furnishings. They range from singles for the solo traveller to more spacious triples and quads, if you’re in a group. Don’t leave without a beer and a Scotch egg at the microbrewery opposite, La Bec Jaune. The Super Morzine gondola is 200m away, and the Pléney is 250m.
Hotel Les Airelles
Hotel
There’s a certain aged luxury to the rooms at Les Airelles, a hotel in the centre of Morzine. Each one comes with a balcony, and they’re decorated in typical Savoie style, simple but elegant, with lots of natural light. There are two restaurants: Les Jardins d’Ulysse by the heated swimming pool, or Les Airelles, a more traditional mountain dining experience, with tartan tablecloths between dark, wooden walls. As well as the pool, there’s also a spa with sauna, hammam, jet shower and massage rooms.
Hotel Champs Fleuris Morzine
Hotel
If you fancy skiing right into your hotel at the end of the day, opt for Hotel Champs Fleuris – the hotel is at the foot of the Pléney piste. There’s even an in-house resident ski guide to take you round the slopes on certain days. Each week, the Hotel Champs Fleuris also organises both a lunchtime raclette in a chalet on the slopes, and a cheese fondue dinner with live music.
Au Coin du Feu
Hotel
Alpen Roc
Hotel
The Alpen Roc is a central Morzine hotel, 200m (655ft) from the Super Morzine lift and 400m (1,310ft) from the Pléney gondola. Their rooms mix old-fashioned alpine decor with modern, trendy wood furnishings, and their Alpen restaurant is a casual place to try local favourites (Savoyard fondue followed by a digestif of génépi). There’s a hot tub, all important for restoring those legs, and a covered swimming pool.
Hotel des Dromonts
Hotel
Hotel des Dromonts is as unique a hotel as you’ll find in the French Alps. The wooden architecture stacks upwards at chaotic angles, like something out of a sci-fi film. Indeed, Steven Spielberg and David Lynch are amongst its past guests, when they came to town for the Avoriaz Fantasy Film Festival. Important note – the hotel is in Avoriaz rather than Morzine, but easily connects to Morzine via lifts. The decor is quirky with a hippie feel.
Residence Pierre et Vacances Premium L'Amara
Hotel
Pierre & Vacances is a reliable go-to for ski accommodation all over France. The L’Amara is actually in Avoriaz, but has huge views out over the Morzine valley. It’s ski-in, ski-out, and the Deep Nature Spa has an indoor heated pool and outdoor hot tub, so you can trace those ridgelines while resting weary muscles. The building is an enormous wooden structure, which cuts a beautiful shape, especially from further up the slopes, with the craggy, snowy backdrop.
Fleur des Neiges
Hotel
Fleur des Neiges is at the bottom of the Pléney ski slope for easy accessibility to the slopes. Rooms are warmly lit and soundproofed with balconies that open onto the mountains. There’s an outdoor heated swimming pool and sauna; meanwhile, back in the lounge, armchairs in front of a fireplace are waiting for you to curl up in. In the morning, scoff a big breakfast of fresh French bread and cheese before hitting the slopes. By nightfall, you’ll be ready for the all-inclusive three-course dinner in the hotel restaurant.
