With its fairytale red roofs and spires spread across the city, Prague is a stunning locale to view from a vantage point. There are some great spots from which to take in the capital of the Czech Republic, from the mid-14th-century tower of Old Town Bridge to a fort on the east bank of the Vltava River.

Old Town Hall Tower

If you want a photo of Old Town, you’ll want to head for Hall Tower. Visiting Prague in winter, this spot gives you the best view of the Christmas market and at night, you can catch the beautiful lights of Old Town Square and the Church of Our Lady before Týn. It’s worth bearing in mind that space is tight inside the tower and it gets very crowded around sunset.

Vyšehrad

A fort on the east bank of the Vltava River, Vyšehrad has extensive grounds, hidden passages, a museum and the remains of a medieval basilica and offers great views of both the river and the city. You’ll easily find the best spot just by walking around – it’s right next to a metal map that identifies some of the buildings you can see in the distance.

Old Town Bridge (Charles Bridge) Tower

You’ve got 138 steps to climb to reach the top of Old Town Bridge Tower for the best views of Charles Bridge and the Malá Strana neighbourhood on the west bank of the Vltava River. There’s rarely a crowd waiting to climb the mid-14th-century tower so it’s an excellent option right in Old Town for catching views of Prague.

Letná Park

Letná Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Prague and a great spot for capturing several of Prague’s bridges in one shot. You can head to the park’s Hanavsky pavilion for an open view directly over the Vltava River, or walk around to catch additional sights from different angles.

Petřín Hill offers several chances for great photography. To reach the top, you can take a funicular car — make sure you sit on the left side for the best views — and take photos as you go up. Once at the top, there are several great viewpoints or you can carry on climbing to the top of the Petřín Lookout Tower for an even higher vantage point for viewing the city.
