Though traditional Dalmatian cuisine is very much based on meat and fish, Split’s vegetarian dining scene is on the rise. Whether you’re in the market for a veggie breakfast or tofu burritos, we help you discover the best places to find vegetarian and plant-based cuisine in the Croatian city of Split.

Kat’s Kitchen

Cafe, Healthy

Fast food doesn’t have to be unhealthy. This is the motto behind Kat’s Kitchen grab’n’go eatery in Morpurgova poljana. Kat’s Kitchen is named after its founder Katarina Rogošić Vukasović, who is the brain behind the recipes. Katarina had been preparing plant-based meals for her family for about ten years when she decided to turn her home cooking passion into a restaurant business. The rich menu includes toasts, salads, croissants, smoothie bowls, raw cakes and desserts. If you go there in the evening, make sure to try an organic cocktail.

Marta’s Veggie Fusion

Restaurant, Vegetarian

This is another charming family restaurant equally loved by locals and visitors, above all because of its delicious homemade meals, but also because it’s situated near Split’s famous Peristil Square. From beetroot burgers and smoked tofu to hummus and chia puddings, Marta’s Veggie Fusion offers a great range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options, including gluten-free choices.

UpCafé

Cafe, Restaurant, Vegetarian

UpCafé is a cosy cafe-restaurant that offers a huge variety of vegan and vegetarian meal options, including takeaway. Here, you can enjoy tasty tofu burritos, hemp burgers and baked vegetable crêpes with cheese. If you have a sweet tooth, go for the bajadera torte (layers of chocolate, crushed biscuits and ground nuts), which tastes even better when combined with fruit juice or organic tea. If you prefer to dine al fresco, you can do so in UpCafé’s outdoor seating area. It’s worth noting that the bar is accessible by wheelchair (not a given in Split), and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Pandora Greenbox

Restaurant, Vegetarian

Pandora Greenbox is a veritable green oasis in the centre of Split, and not only because of its greenery-heavy menu – upon stepping inside, customers are greeted by an abundance of plants, trees and branches. Though it only opened in 2019, Pandora Greenbox has already become a popular mainstay of Split’s veggie scene. As well as the high-quality plant-based meals such as burgers, beetroot risottos and açai bowls, the eco-friendly ethic of the restaurant is worth mentioning – Pandora GreenBox is committed to using little or no plastic.

Hestia

Restaurant, Vegetarian

Hestia is the new star of Split’s veggie scene. A tiny joint that smells sensational thanks to its trademark spicy soups served with homemade bread, Hestia also offers design-your-own omelettes and a changing selection of seasonal foods. Gluten-free options are available. Whatever you choose to eat, you should definitely wash it down with Hestia’s famous lavender juice.

Superfood Healthy Food Factory

Restaurant, Vegetarian, Healthy

The first Superfood Healthy Food Factory opened in Prokurative Square in Split in 2016. Three years later, the restaurant moved just around the corner. This eatery is well known among Splitians for its spelt-flour pizzas, seafood pasta, matcha lattes and raw cakes.

Galerija Food

Restaurant, Healthy, Vegetarian, Vegan, European

Even though it’s not a vegetarian restaurant, there are bountiful veggie options at Galerija Food, with many based on seitan and tofu. Galerija Food is situated in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace, in a beautiful courtyard.
