Before heading to brunch in Veliko Tarnovo or anywhere in Bulgaria, it is worth knowing that brunch is not customary in the country and will probably not be what you expect. Nonetheless, if you are craving a late breakfast or lunch, there are a few places in Veliko Tarnovo where you can find delicious food, varied menus, and astonishing views.

There is also a free kids corner if the children get bored.

Ethno

If you want to eat in style in Veliko Tarnovo, go to Ethno Restaurant. This spacious establishment with a panoramic terrace offering a view over the Yantra River and the Old Town serves Bulgarian national cuisine, Middle Eastern appetizers, sea and freshwater fish specialties, and sushi. The desserts are mainly influenced by Turkish cuisine, which means you can expect a lot of sugar and rich flavors. The view from the restaurant is impressive and is a reason to stop by all on its own.

Vkusoteriya (ВкусотериЯ)

Restaurant, Bulgarian, Fast Food

If you ask locals for a good place for burgers, they will point you to Vkusoteriya. The simple design, the versatile music that goes beyond the songs you hear everywhere all the time, and the welcoming staff make for a great first impression the moment you enter the door. Aside from the classics and favorites, the sandwiches and burgers are always changing, so there are new varieties to taste every time you go. Although the place is tiny, its ambiance makes it a perfect place to grab an aromatic coffee and read a book.

Ego Pizza & Grill

Restaurant, Pizzeria, Bulgarian, Mediterranean, European

The creators of Ego were inspired by the colorful and homey design of a Mediterranean house when they were decorating their restaurant. You can feel an air of southern Europe everywhere – from the décor to the menu, while the wine list contains wines from all over the world. The chain has three restaurants in Veliko Tarnovo, and you can also order food to take home.

Rich

Restaurant, Bulgarian

A welcoming sign in Bulgarian points to the Veliko Tarnovo restaurant Rich (Рич) with the words: “Coziness, peacefulness and a wonderful view.” Add simple, well-prepared Bulgarian cuisine, and you get a summary of what awaits you here. The food tastes just like what a Bulgarian granny would cook for her grandchildren, and the prices are more than affordable. Pull up a chair and enjoy the view of the amphitheatrically arranged houses and the river facing the restaurant.

Amaretto

Bakery, Cafe, Dessert Shop, Dessert, Bulgarian, Coffee

When your sugar cravings hit, head to Amaretto (Сладкопекарна Amaretto) for a Sicilian cannolo, an exquisite slice of tiramisu, or a savory baked delicacy. It is a place where you can try both traditional Bulgarian pastries and creative recipes boldly mixing tastes from all over the world.
