For visitors that might not have time for a sit-down meal, Gradska Trzinca market is a great place to grab something to eat and enjoy it on the go. Housed within a lovely neo-classical building, the market features plenty of food stalls serving Bosnian breakfast specials such as traditional flatbreads and yogurt. It is conveniently situated near to a number of sites, such as the Eternal Flame and the main cathedral.

As much an historical landmark as a restaurant, Moricá Han is a traditional tavern built in the mid-16th century and financed by the same sponsor as the famous Gazi Husrev-beg mosque. It offers a traditional cafe and restaurant menu featuring regional favorites, such as flatbreads, Turkish tea, and Bosnian coffee, making it a lovely spot for a brunch. The seating area is mainly outdoors, in a pretty courtyard where there are also a number of small stalls selling traditional scarves and rugs.

Sac Buregdžinice

One of the best places in Sarajevo to try some classic Bosnian burekis Sac Buregdžinice. Burekis a traditional pastry dish eaten at all times of the day, and is essentially a filo pastry pie stuffed with a range of fillings, but usually meat or cheese. The burekhere is served in huge portions at a small price but turnover in the restaurant is quite fast, so this isn’t the place for sitting around.

In the center of the Old Town is Kolobara Han, a surprising garden restaurant offering a quiet and tranquil experience in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Sarajevo’s main tourist area. Most of the tables are outdoors, surrounded by shady trees and trellises, and the menu offers a range of brunch items including Bosnian coffee, omelets, and flatbreads. A lovely spot for a slow brunch in a quiet but central setting.

Buregdžinica Bosna

Another classic burekjoint, Buregdžinica Bosna offers a more relaxed experience than the bustling Sac Buregdžinice mentioned above. The restaurant has an outdoor terrace where diners can take in the Old Town atmosphere, while the indoor area is decorated with scenes from the 1984 Winter Olympics, which were held in Sarajevo. Try the burekwith their yoghurt sauce.
