It may be known as the world’s smallest city but that doesn’t mean Durbuy doesn’t pack a punch. Lose yourself in its romantic cobbled streets before exploring the countryside and impressive rock formations. For culture vultures, there’s the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to wander around in, too. Couples can enjoy a romantic getaway to this cosy one-bedroom cottage in Septon, 6km (3.7mi) from Durbuy town centre. It’s fully equipped and has a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking a lush garden. The Sir Hugh Fraser of Lovat monument is a three-minute drive away or, if it’s an adrenaline buzz you’re after, then Durbuy Adventures is nearby where you enjoy activities such as rafting, ziplining, tube sliding and high ropes. Spend an evening with a picnic on the banks of the nearby lake or spark up the barbecue and enjoy the peaceful views from the heated terrace. Perched on a hill two minutes outside Durbuy, La Lisière comprises a gîte – which sleeps three – and a cabin for two. Both overlook woods and vast grasslands and if you’re lucky you might catch sight of a roe deer, hare or badger. The properties both have cosy wooden interiors and ample space to cook your own meals. But make sure you’re on the terrace as the sun goes down, as some of the sunsets here are spectacular.
