When July rolls around and you fear it’s too late to catch up with the best films coming in hot from Cannes, Cinematek has got you covered. For a week, the National Film Museum will be screening gems that participated in one of the most prestigious programs at Europe’s biggest film festival.

While not technically a competition, Cannes’ highly esteemed Quanzaine des Réalisateurs – or Directors’ Fortnight – is traditionally a mix of well-known filmmakers as well as some bold newcomers. Daring choices and contemporary themes have especially marked the Quainzaine’s recent years, making Cinematek’s picks of the teenage thriller Mean Dreams, the docudrama Wolf and Sheep and the animated Ma Vie de Courgette, among others, fascinating watches.
