Aerial view of Miradouro da Vista do Rei, Sao Miguel, Azores

Cycle, kayak and hike your way around the Azores

So far out in the Atlantic that you can barely call it Europe, this Portuguese archipelago is one giant volcanic playground for outdoor adventurers. You’ll get to cycle around, and kayak on, the shimmering crater lakes of Sete Cidades, as well as go on a scenic hike around around Furnas Lake. The epic, high gradient landscapes here, combined with the fertility of volcanic grounds, has created a luscious carpet of bright green vegetation, populated by an array of wildlife. Cool off in rock pools after a challenging hike to Salto do Cabrito waterfall and, if you’re a real adrenaline junkie, you can canyon down rocky ravines and abseil down waterfalls in Ribeira dos Caldeiroes. Don’t worry, you can relax later when we grab cocktails and go for a soak in some natural geothermal hot springs.
