From jungle-trekking in Thailand to the dusty red deserts of Jordan, tackle the most inspiring treks in the world on these two-footed trips.
We’re calling 2024 the year of adventure, and it’s time to pack your hiking boots and head off in search of new horizons. But where to go? You could trek through centuries-old ruins in Jordan, find yourself high in the Caucasus of Georgia, or summit a prominent peak like Doi Inthanon in Thailand. Book one of these trips and you’ll have Local Insiders to lead the way and a small group of like-minded travellers join you in admiring the view.
Climb Mount Batur for sunrise views of Bali
Our 12-day discovery of paradise in Bali is full of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, from snorkelling with sea turtles to swimming in Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, but hikers will never forget day five. It’ll be an early start, but well worth it, because watching the sun come up over Bali from atop the island’s second highest peak is something else. Depending on the weather, you might even end up above the clouds. Either way it’s a stunning spectacle, and one you’ll still be thinking about as you tuck into a lakeside breakfast at the bottom of the mountain.
Traverse high mountain passes and river-snaked forests in Georgia
The Alps have nothing on the oh-my peaks of the Caucasus, eight of which are taller than the 4,809m-high (15,777ft) Mont Blanc. Lace up your boots for a three-hour trek to the Gergeti Trinity Church, which sits against a backdrop of soaring cliffs under snow-capped Mount Kazbek. This nine-day excursion in Georgia also features a ramble through the Lagodekhi National Park, filled with waterfalls, mountain eagles and wild cats. Then, recharge back in capital Tbilisi with local wine, typical Georgian cuisine and a session in the local thermally fed baths, complete with a traditional exfoliating kisa massage.
