This Map Shows the Most Common Words on Every Country's Wikipedia Page
We all love a good map. That’s why another awesome one has been created to show the most common words on every country’s Wikipedia page.
The wonderful, colourful piece of cartography was created on social networking site Reddit – and yes, it did appear on the iconic MapPorn subreddit.
The lovely little thing excludes any words such as ‘the’, ‘country’, ‘government’ and demonyms, but what is quite interesting, is that for places like the UK, Turkey and Russia, it seems what Wiki users are obsessed with most is their nation’s imperial past – or it could just be masses of students using the website for their homework (we’ll take a punt on that).
As you can see, some of the other results are quite surprising:
The USA’s most popular word on Wikipedia is ‘war’…
China still seems to be obsessed with its ‘dynastic past’…
Northern African countries have quite a lot to say about each other…
And Europe has an obsession with the ‘world’ (those two world wars we imagine) …
Love maps? This one shows you when everyone in the world is going to die!
