Costa Rica’s expat community has the same story: one trip become two trips, one week the first time became two months the next, and before you know it, you’re living full time in Costa Rica. What makes this story quite different is what happened One family’s story changed quite a bit after the big move: after relocating with their two children on a nine-month trial run and living in Nosara for three years, a New York couple opened Nalu.
Nalu are architecturally impressive and Mother Earth-minded boutique villas in Nosara for yoga, fitness, and relaxation. The idea behind this stunning compound was to provide guests with the space, amenities, and luxuries to escape their everyday world and enter a place of peace, comfort, and inspiring natural beauty.

Your own private backyard

Two- and three-bedroom villas are available for rent at this a wonderful place for families, couples, and friends to come and reconnect with each other and nature. Nalu is harmoniously located within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, shops, and all that the little beach town of Playa Guiones, Nosara has to offer. Let the kids can run free, kick off your shoes, and just let go.

The perfect space

The villas and the fitness studio were designed by world-renowned architect Benjamin Garcia Saxe. Each villa includes a private saltwater pool, outdoor and indoor shower, multiple patios, lush garden, full kitchen (complete with a Ninja blender), spa bathrooms, luxurious linens, and beach towels. Open space design, high ceilings, and large windows create a wonderfully inviting home with a lot of natural light. The villas have only electricity-conserving LED bulbs and use solar power to both heat the water for showers and filter it so that it is safe for consumption, in turn eliminating the need for plastic bottles. Nalu also treats its own gray water and recycles it to water the abundant vegetation around the property.

Practice in nature

Take a variety of yoga, kickboxing, and other fitness classes at the open-air fitness studio encompassed by dense plant life to feel like practicing yoga or working out in the middle of the jungle. Classes are open to the public, and the schedule changes each month, but expect classes like muay thai, TRX, jazz and hip hop, yin and restorative yoga, and vinyasa flow—as well as kid-friendly classes like kid karate—and equipment is provided.

Home sweet home

Nalu is a truly unique place that will immediately feel like home for the duration of your vacation in Nosara. “Nalu” is Hawaiian for “wave” and also means “to go with the flow” (similar to the Costa Rican phrase, “pura vida”). The vibe of Nalu is simply that, to just go with the flow with a heart filled with eternal optimism.
