Two and a half years ago, we - Loeke de Waal and Steffi Posthumus - started our #doinggood adventure. Our timelines were flooded with posts by peers who went volunteering in far away places and we wondered: why do so many youngsters do this? And what are the effects of this phenomenon called ‘voluntourism’? To answer these questions we followed and filmed Dutch 21-year-old Mitchell on his trip to Cape Town, South Africa. During this whole process we did everything ourselves: from research & production to directing, editing and PR.
