The Best French Restaurants In Hi An Vietnam

Vietnam was ruled by France for more than 80 years, between 1859 and 1945. It is unsurprising then that Vietnamese cuisine has been heavily influenced by French cuisine. Indeed, one of Vietnam’s biggest exports – coffee – was introduced to Vietnam in the 1800s by the French. Here, we list our favorite French restaurants located in the historic town of Hội An.

1. The Cargo Club

The Cargo Club is a cafe-restaurant in which you can enjoy dinner sitting on the terrace or pop downstairs for some tasty cake and a cup of coffee. Although this restaurant isn’t strictly French – its menu mainly mixes French, Asian, and Italian cuisines and it is a Melbourne-inspired cafe – it is a superb place to try some French food. Their desserts come highly recommended.

2. La Plage

La Plage restaurant offers amazing views of An Bang Beach. The French and Vietnamese food is cooked by chef Miss Nhan and her assistant Miss Thao. The restaurant is a great place to relax; it has a bohemian vibe, features music and serves delicious cocktails.

3. Le Banyan Bar

As with La Plage, Le Banyan Bar is located on An Bang Beach, so the views from this restaurant are stunning. From fresh grilled fish to exquisitely marinated scallops, the menu is delicious and abundant in options. They have WiFi and, if you ask nicely, they have been known to lend their surfboards and body-boards for free. A word of warning; Le Banyan Bar is not quite fine dining but eating here doesn’t come cheap.

4. Chez Marcel

Restaurant, French

Chez Marcel is owned by a Frenchman and named after his father. The restaurant itself is small, warm, and romantic with lampshades dangling from the ceiling and tables with wooden chairs and benches cluttering the space inside. Chez Marcel change their menu every day, accommodating special dishes from all over Europe and Asia.

5. Café Cherry

Restaurant, Vietnamese

Owned by Jerry and Chery, Café Cherry is a quirky restaurant offering great food as well as a motorcycle and automotive customs workshop. This means that, as well as planning your meal, you can plan a trip on motorbikes around the country. This restaurant is intimate and the food is excellent. Overall, it’s a great place to speak to locals and meet fellow travellers.
