The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ancient Town of Hoi An is filled with tailors, a tradition resulting from its past as a trading port on the silk route. Tailor shops here are so plentiful that it can get overwhelming trying to choose one that fits your taste. There are a rare few among the 400+ shops that repeatedly come out on top, and here they are.

Be Be Tailor

Shop, Store

For 15 years, Be Be Tailor has been creating the perfect garment for every customer that has walked through its doors, so everyone leaves here with no less than a smile, a wonderful memory and a beautifully tailored piece of clothing. The Be Be team is so adept with their fingers that they can create just about anything—use your imagination, browse the internet or ask the team for a recommendation on what will look good on you, and you will have it in your hands in a day or two. You can even look through their website that displays some of their past designs, and there are a few cool videos to watch if you’re not into reading. If you’re curious about how all the stitching is done, you can simply ask for a tour of their on-site production room at their flagship store, Be Be 1. Complete transparency and high ethical standards are two of the many reasons Be Be stands out from the sea of tailor shops in Hoi An—you are guaranteed that your measurements are not handed off to some mass garment factory, resulting in a piece that is produced without love or care for quality. And due to their consistent quality and excellent customer service, Be Be has since expanded from a small mom and pop shop to a giant three-store enterprise, with a guestbook that has over 70,000 names signed in it. Maybe you will be the next one in their long list of happy customers?

Yaly Couture

Market, Market, Shop, Theater

yaly
Yaly is another very popular spot to get something for yourself tailored, often recommended from one person to another by word of mouth. Another tailor shop with humble beginnings, this time from a simple market stall, Yaly has grown into three beautiful boutiques, located in the Ancient Town, over the years. With professional staff that know exactly what they are doing and fantastic modern premises that display a huge range of fabrics, you are guaranteed a high-quality experience and product in your hands. Yaly is where you need to go if you want to spice up your wardrobe and add a few elaborate items to your otherwise dull choices, such as apparel with sequins, ruffles, multiple layers of fabric, bead work and embroidery, etc. If a wedding is soon approaching in your calendar, yours or otherwise, perhaps you can get your dress done here. It will be a dress you will save and pass down to your children, and them to theirs—years later, the dress will seem as if it is still brand new. Yaly may be on the expensive side, but the golden rule in Hoi An is that you get what you pay for.

A Dong Silk

A Dong Silk is a professional bespoke tailoring company, strongly affirmed by top tourism websites such as Lonely Planet and TripAdvisor. The initial appearance of their flagship store, located on 62 Tran Hung Dao Street, is a million miles away from your average, often shabby-looking Hoi An tailor shop that seems as if it needs to refit itself. There are two floors here full of fabulous fabric, imported and local, for you to choose from. Orders from their three locations are sent to a separate workshop.

Wedding dress

The A Dong Silk stores are among those rare tailor shops in Hoi An that offer a high-end experience, strongly committed to creating the best designs and products for their customers. The team here is well-trained in the craft and know exactly the right questions to ask to make the perfect fit for you. Despite being a luxurious shop, you are still able to get a custom dress shirt made for as little as 20 USD, which is about the same as you’d pay for an off-the-rack shirt in a boutique shop. Prices for suits begin at 120 USD, which for the quality of materials and skill put into creating them, is a great bargain.

Another cool thing about A Dong Silk is that they have developed an online shopping website to serve their international clientele who cannot make the trip to Vietnam, where they can select and place orders.

Kimmy Tailor

Kimmy Tailor has been around the longest out of the tailor shops mentioned in this list. They have been in the world of custom tailoring since the ‘70s, passing down their unique skills and bespoke secrets from generation to generation. Now owned by a Vietnamese-Canadian couple, their international experience, combined with the colorful Vietnamese heritage is what sets them apart from others. They pride themselves on understanding Western styles and sensibilities, and keeping up with ever-changing worldly fashion trends. The tailors here are trained well in the craft and can produce anything from pieces of luxury couture fashion to simple, casual beachwear.
