Ho Chi Minh City – or Saigon, as it was named before 1976 – is bursting at the seams with cool hotels that are cheap as chips. Whether you’re in the city to shop, see sights or learn about Vietnam’s fascinating history, you can find a base that’s comfortable without leaving you broke before you’ve even arrived. Here’s our pick of the best cheap hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, bookable with Culture Trip.

Nguyen Shack

Despite being in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, this cool bamboo shack concept feels like you’re in the jungle – and with such an affordable price, you could even tag a few nights elsewhere onto the end of your trip. Alternatively, treat yo’self and spend the extra Vietnamese currency in the local markets.

Town House 50 Saigon

Town House 50 has a price and cool vibe to rival the city’s hostels, but a whole lot more privacy. It’s also the perfect location for sightseeing, with the Ben Tanh Markets and Duc Ba cathedral within walking distance. The cul-de-sac building really is the perfect little hideaway, and makes an inviting escape from the city’s beautiful but occasionally overwhelming sights.

The Alcove Library Hotel

Boutique Hotel

If aesthetics are your thing, this is surely the only hotel to keep in mind for your trip. The floor-to-ceiling bookcase stacked with a pleasing array of titles is enough to keep you holed up in the literary-themed Alcove, but if you do manage to make it out, head up to the rooftop bar for a tranquil view of the local streets.

Ma Maison Boutique Hotel

Boutique Hotel

Get a real taste of Ho Chi Minh City with the French Colonial Ma Maison. Location-wise, it’s not that central, but the authenticity of staying among locals certainly makes up for it. The hotel is owned by Vietnamese siblings who decided to share their home with the public – and we’re grateful.

Millennium Boutique Hotel

If clean, modern hotels suit you best, then the Millennium is sure to tick your boxes. The staff are incredibly friendly, and only too happy to go the extra mile to make your stay perfect. Located just down the road from the Opera House, this one gets points for being in an excellent location, too.

Cinnamon Hotel Saigon

Located in the heart of the central District 1, Cinnamon Hotel is ideally placed for the city’s tourist attractions, including the Opera House, Diamond Plaza, Independence Palace and Bitexco Financial Tower. All that walking could take its toll – if it weren’t for the free foot massage offered to all guests, of course. Sold!

Liefhotel Saigon

If you follow the #IHaveThisThingWithFloors Instagram tag, you probably already know about this place. If not, you’ll be sold anyway. The colourful, quirky design is the biggest selling point of the Liefhotel, but the rooftop bar, which does a cracking afternoon tea, isn’t half bad either.

Liberty Central Saigon Riverside Hotel

If it’s views you’re looking for the Liberty is perfect. The tall tower is a stunning lookout over the river, the city’s commercial centre and the Saigon skyline. Rooms are stylish and functional, while the rooftop pool is a real selling point. Chilling there with a cocktail feels far more luxurious than the room rates would suggest.

Thao Dien Boutique Hotel

Boutique Hotel

A pool isn’t a given in busy Saigon, but this hotel’s offering is the oasis you’ve been looking for. Thao Dien is the kind of place you picture when you think of Vietnam – plenty of lush gardens and a chilled vibe. The food here is great, and the morning Pho a particular highlight.
