Don’t let the distance sway you from venturing over to Thao Dien in District 2. This enclave is home to some of the coolest bars in the city — and while you won’t save any money, you’ll definitely have a great time. Here are the best bars in one of the coolest wards in Ho Chi Minh City.

Saigon Outcast

Bar, Market, Restaurant, American, Vietnamese

Saigon Outcast describes itself as a “creative space, magical craft beer garden and graffiti paradise” — and we agree. This venue hosts everything from rock climbing and movie evenings, to life-drawing classes and acoustic nights. One of the most striking things about Saigon Outcast, though, is the graffiti covering many of the surfaces. This place has some of the most impressive wall art in the city.

Buddha Bar&Grill

Bar, Restaurant, American, Vietnamese, Mexican

Buddha Bar has become the home bar for many people in Thao Dien. Their food and drinks are good, but it’s the atmosphere that elevates them above the competition. This is one of our favorite spots in the whole city, let alone Thao Dien. The regulars are peaceful, and the music is always interesting — especially on nights when they have bands. They have pool, shuffleboard, darts, foosball and — thanks to another expansion — more than enough seating for you and your friends. Trust us, you’ll like it here.

Tropicana

Bar, Nightclub, Spanish, American, Mexican

With probably the best rooftop in Thao Dien, this bar is a great place to watch a spectacular sunset with a world class cocktail and some tasty food. And once the sun sets, the dancing starts. If you’re into salsa, then you really need to check out Tropicana. Even if you’re not much of a dancer, the fun atmosphere and wonderful drinks make this an easy choice for a great evening.

Evita Bar

Bar, Mediterranean, Salad Bar

This cozy bar is popular among the many teachers working at the nearby international schools. The staff and regulars definitely know how to have a good time here as well. On Fridays and Sundays, there is live music, and their happy hour brings in many happy customers. They also have frequent art events, as well as themed parties, so if you’re looking to hold an event, give them a ring. They’d be happy to help you out.

Dtwo Sportspub

Bar, Pub, Pub Grub, British, American, Australian, Asian

If you’re looking for a place to watch the game in Thao Dien, look no further than Dtwo Sportspub. The walls are practically made of televisions, and they have all the major channels. Whatever your sport, the helpful staff will find your game. As for food, their pub grub is damn good — the perfect treat to go along with their selection of beer and bar games.

Casba Saigon

Bar, Cafe, Restaurant, French, Vietnamese

Casba is an oasis of fun where you can enjoy great drinks, take a dip in the pool, try some lawn bowling, or just lounge around and take in the excess of good vibes. They also know how to turn up the action, and you can find a fun dance party on many nights. They often bring in DJs and talented musicians, so keep an eye on their Facebook page to see what’s happening.

BiaCraft Artisan Ales - Xuan Thuy

Craft Ale Bar, American

Nothing makes us happier than a big glass of craft beer, whether it’s a pale ale, porter, stout, lager, pilsener, or… well, you get the point. They claim they have the widest selection of craft beers in Vietnam, so whatever your taste, they probably have it. This location isn’t as big as their flagship spot in District 3, but the beer is just as good — and that’s all that really matters. Also, make sure you come with an empty stomach, because the food is fantastic.
