This Is the Thai Island Monkeys Have Taken Over

Commissioning Editor

If you’re planning a trip to Thailand, be sure to head south of Pattaya, just off the coast of Bang Saray, to Monkey Island, a tiny jungle-covered hidden gem waiting to be discovered. To get there, you can either book a tour or hire a private speed boat through a company such as Pattaya Yacht Charters. This an experience not to be missed, especially if you’re a true primate lover.

Known by various names – Koh Ling, Koh Ped or Koh Klet Kaew – this tropical sanctuary is swarming with hundreds of crab-eating macaques (locally known as ling samae). You’ll find them lazing by the shore, sitting on trees, jumping on boats or swimming with visitors in the open water.

If you’re looking to feed these friendly monkeys, some suitable food items to take would be seeds, fruit and nuts, along with some water. Make sure your crisps and drinks are hidden away to avoid any dietary mishaps.

To make the most of your day, you could also hop along to the surrounding islands and go snorkelling!
