A casual café-cum-bar with industrial-esque designs, Dexter Café and Bar has a typical selection of popular brunch and breakfast options. The menu includes eggs Benedict, salmon steak, salads, pasta dishes, nachos, waffles, pulled pork sandwich, and the ever-popular pad Thai. The café tries to include dishes from various corners of the world. If you’re famished, the brunch plate will hit the spot. Choose your style of eggs and enjoy sausage, bacon, salami, various hams, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, and pancakes, accompanied by a hot drink. The drinks menu is equally varied, with coffees, teas, juices, and more. There are regular deals to help you get more bang for your buck — the morning two-for-one drinks deal is especially popular.

Opening at 11 am each morning, Jim Thompson Café 9 could be a great brunch stop if you want to also browse a range of fine Thai silks. It’s an elegant eatery in its own right. The menu has a wide selection of Western fare and Thai favourites, and all dishes are beautifully presented to please the eyes as well as the stomach. Think items artistically arranged on banana leaves with decorative carved veg on the side. From soups and curries to salads, noodles, and rice dishes, the fare is tempting. They also serve one of Thailand’s most popular desserts — mango with sticky rice. Try it, you won’t be disappointed! Do note that even though the café is open until 9pm each day, food is only served up until 6pm.

Breakfasts are available throughout the day, including pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit, baked goodies, and more. The bacon, eggs, baked beans, and toast are ideal for anyone hankering after a traditional English breakfast. You may find the sandwiches, pasta dishes, salads, and burgers more appealing if it’s later on in the morning. If there’s still space left, order a delicious slice of cake or tart, ice cream, or another sugar-loaded dessert. Wash everything down with a hot tea or coffee as you admire the quirky stuffed toys and vintage ornaments and relax on comfy cushions.

The effect is somewhere between gourmet burger and fast food, with great tastes, a casual vibe, and fast service. Feel fancy with a black charcoal bun and bulk up your brunch with fries that have just the perfect balance between crispy outsides and fluffy insides. Quench your thirst with soda or beer. Alternatively, if you order water, the restaurant will also make a donation to charity.

Perfect for breakfast or a morning snack on the go, you can grab your things to take away or take a seat on the cosy mezzanine level to savour your goodies with coffee, tea, or juice as you watch the hustle and bustle below.

10. Jok Prince

Restaurant, Food Stall, Thai

A basic breakfast spot along Silom’s Charoen Krung Road, Jok Prince is perfect if you want to do breakfast the Thai way. Specialising in jok, a porridge-like rice soup dish, it may only do one main thing but it does it well. Extras include minced pork, pork balls, offal, and egg. The meal is hearty and comforting and it will certainly see you through until lunchtime. And, the prices are cheap. The restaurant is popular with Thais and expats and you may have to wait some time for a table if you come during peak hours. You can, however, also stand in line to get your breakfast to take away. Do keep in mind that there’s no English sign outside so you’ll need to keep your eyes open when looking for it.
