Green Island

Located off the coast of Kuwait City’s promenade, Green Island is an artificial island in Kuwait. Opened in February 1988, the island is a popular tourist attraction, stretching over an area of 785,000 square metres (8.5 million square feet). The idea for the island was to offer an escape from the usual desert scenery. Here, you can take part in a number of activities including biking, walking and even scuba diving. And if you feel the need to sit back and take a break from the hustle and bustle, you can simply sit along the coastline, which offers a great view of the city.

Kuwait Towers

Located right next to the beach, with their distinctive blue-green “sequins”, Kuwait Towers are a collection of three towers that serve as a water storage facility, café, restaurant and revolving lookout point. Of the three towers, only the first and tallest is open to the public. The top sphere on the tower contains observation platforms, shops and a snack bar. This is the main sphere that revolves at a rate of 30 minutes per full rotation, offering views of the city and the Arabian Gulf from a height of 123m (404ft). If you are looking for a 360-degree view of Kuwait City, then this is the place to go.

Located on the periphery of Kuwait City, Al Shaheed Park narrates the story of the country, its history and its culture. The park consists of 200,000 square metres (2.15 million square feet) of greenery, featuring beautiful botanical gardens, two museums, a visitor centre, an amphitheatre, lake, walkways and jogging tracks, making it the largest urban park in Kuwait. Fully lit at night, the park opens up as a nice outdoor space to explore an evening during the warmer months. If you are looking for some relaxation time, check out the Guest Center. A two-storey building, the Center has a restaurant with a beautiful balcony overlooking the lake and parts of the Kuwait City skyline.

Fishing piers on the Arabian Gulf

These fishing piers were created and are maintained by the State of Kuwait; made from concrete, they stretch about 15 metres (49ft) into the Arabian Gulf. Don’t forget to bring your fishing gear, since there is no fishing store nearby; and if fishing is not your sport, the pier is great for a seaside promenade. An asphalt path is studded with well-lit street lights, and at dusk this offers one of the best views of the Kuwait City skyline and the sea.

Marina Beach

Kuwait enjoys a magnificent coastline, azure waters and white sand – the scenic beauty is ethereal. One of the most popular beaches, Marina Beach, offers great views of the city’s skyline. Here, you are welcomed by plenty of palms growing on the sand, along with kiosks serving ice cream and drinks. Kids have a bouncy playground, in addition to bike hire, a skate park and good restaurants for a meal.
