The History Of Shinjuku Gyoen In 1 Minute

Over two hundred years ago, Shinjuku Gyoen contained the house and lands of an esteemed daimyo (feudal lord) and his family. Today, it’s a public park and garden, the backyard of Tokyo‘s Shinjuku Ward.
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is nearly 150 acres of manicured lawns, gardens and water features. The garden aspects incorporate three distinct styles: English, French and Japanese. Visitors can also experience tropical varieties inside the park’s picturesque greenhouse. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is home to many species of cherry trees and is a popular spot for springtime hanami (flower gazing) as well as autumn koyo (colorful fall leaves).
