Sumida Ward became more popular than ever after the Tokyo Skytree opened there in 2010. After seeing the sights, relax at one of these top bars in the ward.

Popeye

Bar, Pub, Japanese

The legendary Popeye is one of the most popular bars in Ryogoku. They serve a wide variety of craft beers – one of the largest in Tokyo – and offer free appetizers during happy hour (4-6 PM). It can get very busy on Fridays and weekends, so best to have a backup plan in mind.

Smalllest Bar

Bar, Japanese

Smalllest is a lively, casual bar near Kinshicho Station. The space is decorated with an eclectic mishmash of themes, which gives it a fun, unpretentious feel. Great for small groups.

Asahi Sky Room

Bar, Cafe, Japanese

Located on the 22nd floor of the Asahi Building, the Asahi Sky Room supplies patrons with one of the best views in the ward. Owned and operated by the Asahi brewery, you can bet the ubiquitous Japanese beer brand features prominently on the menu. Get there at sunset for the best views.

Bar LOST BOY

Bar, Japanese

Bar LOST BOY is a newly established bar near Hikifune Station, painted bright red inside and decked out in outlandish decor. Their two Mega-sized (one liter!) drink offerings are the Mega Mexican Bulldog (vodka, grapefruit juice and Corona) and the Mega Monster (Monster and vodka), and are a bargain at 1,200 yen.

Endo Risaburo Shoten

Wine Bar, Japanese

Delicious Italian-Japanese appetizers and a great selection of wines from around the world keep patrons coming back to this wine bar. Endo Risaburo Shoten’s wine cellar-inspired décor features upcycled aging barrel tables wall-to-wall wine shelves.

Bar Bee

Bar, Japanese

Bar Bee is a classy, elegant bar northwest of Hikifune Station. The bar is run by a former chef, so the food menu here is as big a draw as the drinks.
