Herzliya is a small city just north of Tel Aviv, known for its stunning Mediterranean coastline, luxurious houses, high-tech industry, top restaurants and popular university (IDC). Just 20 minutes by car from Tel Aviv, it is an excellent option for beachgoers seeking to escape the crowds. It also has numerous charming cafes, the best of which are outlined here.

Yankale

Cafe, Israeli, Mediterranean

Yankale is a nicely designed cafe-restaurant with a modern and upscale feel just seconds from the beach in the classy Herzliya Pituach neighbourhood. Perfect for breakfast or lunch, it has a pleasant outdoor terrace, a friendly atmosphere, and tasty food ranging from shakshuka to sandwiches and pasta. This is a kosher establishment and is closed on Saturdays.

Nahalat Binyamin is best known as the trendy Tel Aviv street near Carmel Market that is home to eateries, great bars, and a popular arts and crafts fair. However, nestled in a quiet street in suburban Herzliya lies arguably the best cafe in the city.

A neighbourhood joint with a loyal following, Nahalat Binyamin has a delicious and diverse menu packed with flavours. From mouthwatering cauliflower with tehini, to perfectly cooked chicken schnitzel and top notch roast beef sandwiches, there’s something for everyone at this neighbourhood favourite. It also has a cosy, enclosed garden that is very pleasant during summer months.

Cafe Rothschild

Cafe, Restaurant, Israeli

Cafe Rothschild is probably the liveliest spot on Sokolov, the main street in Herzilya’s city centre. A cafe-restaurant with a slick design and pleasant outdoor terrace, it is busy from breakfast through to the evening. Their menu is large and kosher, featuring Israeli classics such as shakshuka, in addition to tasty sandwiches, fish, pastas and pizzas. They have several branches across Israel, from Beer Sheva to Nahariya.

Cafe Toscana

Cafe, Restaurant, Italian, Israeli

Cafe Toscana is a hidden gem tucked away behind Sokolov Street in Herzilya’s centre. A small and unassuming cafe with a loyal local following, they serve up Italian dishes such as ravioli, gnocchi, and antipasti, in addition to excellent shakshuka, paninis, pastries and cakes. Their coffee is also very good, which is the most important detail of all!

Mi Casa Cafe

Bistro, Cafe, Israeli, Mediterranean, European

This charming cafe-bistro is located within a kibbutz just minutes away from Herzliya’s centre. Its large and varied menu features an excellent selection of breakfast and lunch dishes, from salmon bagels and classic Israeli breakfast platters to steak sandwiches and tasty salads.

For those coming for dinner, main courses include chicken schnitzel, homemade kebabs and hamburgers (both meat and vegan!). With its eclectic, rustic decor, lovely garden seating area, and relaxed atmosphere, this is a great option for those seeking a convenient escape from the city. It is also vegan, animal and family-friendly and serves great coffee!
