Boutique bakeries have long been part of the Tel Aviv scene. Many of them are well-kept secrets, known only to locals who frequent them on an almost daily basis. We take a look at the tastiest bakeries, serving up sweet treats to eat.

Cake Art

A veritable institution that is perhaps less of a boutique in the aesthetic sense, and more so in the melt-in-the-mouth sense, Cake Art is an unassuming bakery that has been at its location in north Tel Aviv for many years. It is very much an icon of the neighborhood and locals are to be found at all hours, discussing the latest events over a cup of coffee accompanied by a selection of their delicious pastries. The cakes and pastries have retained an old-world feel, appreciated by old and young alike. Add to that the fact that they have the best éclairs in town, and you are on to a winner.

Delal Bakery

Delal Bakery is located in the quaint Neve Zedek neighborhood. Beautifully appointed, it has a European air to it with wicker chairs, marble-topped tables and beautiful wood panelling. The mouth-watering selections of wares are on display in glass cases and the serving staff are happy to provide explanations. A small veranda also allows you to enjoy the amazing Tel Aviv weather. Cakes, pastries and breads are all available, while the tiramisu is simply to die for. The bakery is frequented mostly by locals, in addition to some passing tourists.

Le Moulin

Cafe, Bakery, Coffee Shop, Tea

Le Moulin is a French-style boulangerie offering a wide range of sourdough breads and scrumptious pastries. Although tiny and somewhat unimposing, there is sufficient space inside to stop for a quick coffee and a pastry or baguette sandwich. This is especially advisable if you are planning to purchase items for home consumption, otherwise they stand no chance of making it home in one piece.

Liliyot Bakery

Bakery, Restaurant, Kosher

Liliyot Bakery, a boutique kosher pastry shop and cafe, is conveniently located in the lobby of Beit Asia on Weizman Street, right across from the law courts. This accounts for the many black and white clad individuals who frequent this upmarket location and the many meetings that take place over bites of pastry. Liliyot Bakery offers a variety of breads, baguettes, and a selection of baked goods, cakes, tarts, and quiches. A small selection of salads and sandwiches are also available.

Bar Lehem

Cafe, Coffee Shop, Israeli

Hidden away in the Neot Afeka neighborhood, Bar Lehem was established in 2006. The bakery offers a large variety of freshly baked goods, from sunflower seed focaccia, to brioche rolls, to breads, pastries and cakes. A few tables inside allow you to enjoy some of their fare alongside a good cup of coffee and relax after a hard morning’s shopping in the neighborhood. Take care when trying their granola cookies, as these are truly habit-forming!
