Tel Aviv is filled with clubs, bars, pubs, basically whatever you need for a perfect night out. The variety is huge, with cocktail bars for a more intimate girl’s night out, hipster joints for an outdoor gathering or dance clubs if you are looking to rock the dance floor. But what if it is that time of the month and you just don’t feel like going out?
Anna Loulou, a bar in Jaffa, has the solution to days like this and have launched an unusual happy hour concept, offering a discount to any woman having her period, or in their words: “a happy hour for those with the flow”. A 25% discount is offered on the entire bar, for the entire night, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Bloody Hour

Don’t worry – they seek no actual proof that it is your time of the month – the whole concept is based on trust. All you have to do is let the server/bartender know that you are having your period and that’s it!
This “Bloody Hour” idea, as amusing as it may sound, is much more than a gimmick. The idea behind it was to show women some sympathy and acknowledge their monthly suffering and offer emotional (and alcoholic) support.
The founders claim that the idea was conceived when they decided they want to share that they are having an uncomfortable experience once a month, rather than feeling they should be embarrassed and discrete about it. By launching the Bloody Hour, they hope to encourage other bars throughout the city and around the world to embrace the idea and help women go through these difficult days every month.
It’s not surprising that this idea, encouraging acceptance and openness, emerged in this Jaffa bar: Anna Loulou is quite a unique place. The dance floor is always filled with all sorts of people – there are women and men, Jews and Palestinians, straight and gay, old and young – it hardly matters who is who – everyone is welcome and they all come to have a bloody good time!
