Sandwiched between the city centre and Florentin in the south, Lev Ha’ir is one of Tel Aviv’s busiest neighbourhoods and home to many restaurants. Culture Trip has compiled a list of the best casual lunch spots in the area.

1. Vitrina

Restaurant, Israeli

Serving up the best burgers in Tel Aviv, this restaurant has become so popular that queues stretch out of the door on a daily basis. It is absolutely worth the wait: the meat, which is perfectly tender and juicy, is accompanied by rocket, pickles, caramelised onions and cheese (optional but highly recommended). The burgers come with crispy fries on the side, topped with grated lemon peel.

2. Bana

Restaurant, Vegan

A relative newcomer to Tel Aviv’s culinary scene, this vegan restaurant just off Rothschild Boulevard has fast established itself as one of the best eateries in the city. With well-priced lunchtime deals, this is a great place for a sit-down meal, either in its charming garden or among its modern interiors. Offering beautifully presented seasonal plant-based dishes, Bana will delight even the meat lovers.

3. Delicatessen

Charcuterie, Deli, Restaurant, French, Israeli

This immaculately designed first-floor deli offers bread, cheeses, cold cuts, a medley of international produce and a selection of cooked dishes. It’s a great spot to grab some food on the go, and its upstairs terrace is perfect for a sit-down meal. To satisfy cravings for Jewish classics, go for the chopped liver or salmon bagel.

4. Hummus Eliyahu

Restaurant, Israeli, Middle Eastern

Israelis take hummus very seriously. This hummusiah has become a household name in Israel and has branches scattered across the country. With a branch on Levontin Street, near Rothschild Boulevard, Eliyahu is the place to go for a deliciously warm, filling bowl of hummus.

5. Miznon

Restaurant, Israeli, Fast Food

A casual and trendy pita joint by renowned Israeli chef Eyal Shani, Miznon specialises in gourmet meat-filled pita breads, from steak to slow-cooked beef with tahini and chopped salad. The roasted cauliflower and sweet potato is not to be missed either, and is perfect for sharing with friends. Expect loud music and free shots of arak.

6. Bino

Restaurant, Israeli

For a taste of Middle Eastern cuisine in a casual environment, look no further than Bino. Conveniently located in the middle of Rothschild Boulevard, the venue serves up local favourites, from pita with shawarma to hummus and meat skewers, while vegetarians should opt for the shakshuka. The owner of this spot is the same man behind the successful Dr Shakshuka restaurant in Jaffa.

7. Taqueria

Restaurant, Mexican

Opposite the buzzing Abraham Hostel, Taqueria is popular with young Tel Avivians and tourists, who flock to the restaurant for its delicious margaritas and excellent Mexican food (good vegan options are also available). Portions are relatively small but reasonably priced, so we recommend sharing a variety of dishes, and don’t hold back on their homemade salsa sauces.
