Meet The Renowned Designer Behind Maskit's Revival Sharon Tal

Sharon Tal has worked with some of the most visionary and creative fashion couture houses in the world, including the likes of Alexander McQueen and Lavin. After working at McQueen, where she led embroidery, Tal returned to Israel for a new challenge. Maskit the legendary and historical fashion house had relapsed in the mid 90’s and Tal has since rejuvenated and infused a new life back into the classic Israeli brand. After a breathtaking runway show at GINDI Fashion Week, Culture Trip got a behind the scenes peek at Maskit’s fashion house in Neve Tzedek.

CT: What advice would you give to someone who was trying to break into the fashion business?
Be patient and be professional… School is only the first phase, you should intern and learn from people you appreciate, build the infrastructure and the skills needed for the job.
CT: What is the most memorable moment of your career?

There is a lot, but the last one would be seeing my designs from the Plato Atlantis collection in the Alexander McQueen exhibition.

CT: If you weren’t a fashion designer what would you be doing?

Product designer… I am very much excited about the materials and technique and sometime product design is a much bigger field for experiment like this.

CT: What’s next?

We are just in the very beginning of the road… We want to get back to the good times of Maskit with an international presence and becoming a fully fledged international fashion house.
