Lucas Chauvet is an artist coming to us from a different world. His perspective on color, beauty and imagination is skewed to that of the average man. Known for his unique style, Chauvet’s art is capable of evoking emotions that can’t easily be pinned down. His experiences and worldly outlook impact his work, creating a highly original viewing experience.

Strange Beings

TCT: What advice would you give to someone who was trying to break into the art business (as in moving from the level of just painting for pleasure, to turning it into a job)?

I would say that being an artist doesn’t mean only creating beautiful things. If someone wants to be professional, it’s important to be authentic, to go ahead with full confidence, to enjoy and love what you do. The rest will come.

TCT: What’s next”

For me the future is already here. I have an extreme and flexible life. I think that the future of my work will be built by the hand of technological and sociological developments in the coming years because my work is documentary, mixing cultures and customs with a slightly sarcastic and critical viewpoint that allows room for interpretation.

Easterly Winds

TCT: If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be?

If I could have a magical dinner I would invite my grandpa, Gregorio Dujovny (1925-1990). He was an architect and an artist. He worked around the world with art and technology, kinetic art, lasers and electronic music. He was one of the first artists to work with computers. I think it would be a fascinating dinner.

Strange Beings

TCT: If you could only bring three things to a deserted island, what would they be?

I would choose a telescope, snorkeling gear, and a pretty girl.

TCT: How would you describe yourself in 80 characters?

I’m an artist who uses unusual styles, various materials, and videography. I create my own language.
