In the past five years, local Israeli breweries have been gaining popularity worldwide. Many of these beers have won a number of international awards and are starting to establish recognition. Some of these breweries have opened up brewpubs as well so you can pair a great meal with fresh, straight out of the vat, ice cold beer. Here is our list of some of the best boutique beers Israel has to offer.

The Dancing Camel was the first Israeli boutique beer ever to be offered on market. Opened in 2006, it was also Tel Aviv’s first micro-brewery to open up in the city. The Dancing Camel offers over 10 types of beers, some with wacky flavors and crazy labels on the bottles, but the classic beers like the pale ale or the IPA are some of Israel’s best beers available. Last year they opened up a brewpub next to the brewery so you can get a great meal and a great cold one paired together as well.

Alexander

Located on the shores of the Alexander River, Alexander Beers is a down right superstar in the world of beers. Winning two Gold medals in the European Beer star competition in 2014, for its Blonde beer and Black beer, Alexander beers mean business. They don’t do flavored beer or put fruit in it. It’s a classic brewery that is reaching many bars or pubs in the country, whether on tap or in a bottle.

2. Jem’s

Jem’s opened up the first kosher brewpub in Israel in 2009. Ever since they have opened up in two more locations, but there is only one place where you can see where they make the beer while having a delicious meal with it as well. The original location in Petach Tikvah. Jem’s beer range is very simple, and is composed of six types of beer, stout, pils, dark lager, amber ale, wheat and 8.8. The 8.8 has 8.8% alcohol in it, so it’s a great beer if you’re looking to have a wild time. Also it doesn’t get any fresher than from the vat directly to your glass.

Herzl

Herzl is the only beer in Israel that is brewed within the holy city of Jerusalem. Herzl beer is defined as a beer with an attitude. They have given each beer funky names and they have funky labels as well. Like ‘IPA and that’s it’ or ‘6% Dude’. They haven’t been open for long but they are already making an exceptional impact on the beer scene in Israel.

3. Bazalet

Bazelet beer is made by the Golan Brewing Company and is one of the only breweries that makes a real pilsner beer. The reason for that is because of the fresh water springs the Golan Heights offers. It is one of Israel’s finest beers on the market. Bazelet beers come in four different variations, but the pilsner is what makes this boutique brew special. You can also grab a bite to eat at their brewpub, located on top of the factory, to pair beer with delicious food and truly enjoy.

Shapiro

Shapiro beer started out as two brothers from Jerusalem were sick of the rising prices of beer so they decided to make their own. It caught on with their friends very quickly, who told them they needed to start selling it, and before they knew it the brothers were mass producing beer and selling it all around Israel.
