Introducing The Wonder Women Of The Israeli Indie Music Scene

Noga Erez
Noga Erez

Israel’s indie scene has been steadily growing over the past few years, with more and more Indie acts and festivals springing up all over the country. With enough success, these talented artists can make it big in Europe and beyond. In honor of International Women’s Day, we celebrate seven of the best up-and-coming female musicians in Israel making headlines for their original styles and musical prowess.

Noga Erez

A true electro pop artist, Noga Erez has already recorded her debut album, Off the Radar, and is due for release in the next couple of months. She has performed on one of the biggest stages in Israel, InDNegev, and has been compared to Bjork, St. Vincent, and FKA Twigs. Last year, she embarked on her first European tour, and also participated in Tune in Tel Aviv.

Adi Ulmansky

Adi Ulmansky, a producer and singer originally from Jerusalem, has been critically acclaimed by high-profile publications like Guardian, Vice, and others. Having released two solo albums, Hurricane Girl and Shit just got Real, she has also collaborated with Lorena B, a successful Israeli electronic band. Ulmansky will be touring in Germany in April.

Hila Ruah

Besides writing her own material, Hila Ruah is the striking lead singer of the band Kalbei Ruah, an indie rock act. Hila is officially the hottest new indie star in town; her newest album, The Doctor in the West, was named one of the best indie albums of the moment. She recently released another album, Live at the Barby in Tel Aviv, which featured Eran Zur, her mentor and inspiration.

Aya Zahavi Feiglin

Aya Zahavi Feiglin, 22, hails from the little Israeli town Hadera. Taking the lead from many solo musicians, Feiglin started her musical career as the lead singer of the rock band I Got The Hotties. Her solo album is named Seven Songs and was produced by Hila Ruah. The first single, “Hadera,” is a personal tribute to her own hometown. Her sound is sweet and soft with a husky tone.

Keren Dun

Keren Dun, formally Keren Dunietz, is a talented singer-songwriter and producer who plays keys, saxophone, and percussion. In addition to her solo projects, she has also collaborated with notable acts like Rejoicer and Echo. Her musical style is an amalgamation of different genres, from jazzy electronics to some African influences; her music feels modern and retro at the same time.

Tahel

Tahel Klein began writing songs at the age of six, and her music background contains years of classical vocal and piano training. The indie singer-songwriter and electronic producer’s sound is fresh, boasting personal lyrics and broken beats. Currently, Tahel is the only Israeli performer who plays the Tenori-on as their main instrument on stage. The Tenori-on is a special synth that communicates with the crowd by its special led lights triggers.

In 2014, Tahel joined forces with two talented local producers, Ori Rousso and Matan Spenser, whom she met while she was studying sound engineering and production at Muzik, on her debut solo album, Unfold.

Daniela Milo

American-Israeli Daniela Milo is known for having participated in The Voice in Israel, but since the show ended she has been involved in a number of different indie collaborations, including one part of the “Cut out Club.” In September 2015, ”I will never die” was released, a stunning song with that showcases Milo’s gorgeous vocals, sounding like a cross between Sia and Fiona Apple.
