A Design Lover's Guide to Tel Aviv

Any design lover must visit Tel Aviv’s new fashion mall, Gindi TLV Fashion Mall, where the hottest Israeli and international brands have opened their Tel Aviv flagship stores and where every store is more outstanding and attractive than the next. The recently opened Cafeteria inside the mall is also a cafe, restaurant, deli and bar, making it a perfect hangout at all hours of the day. The only museum devoted to design in Israel, the Design Museum Holon is a 10-minute drive from Tel Aviv, but definitely worth the effort. The building itself, which was designed by Israeli architect and interior designer, Ron Arad, is one of the most impressive structures in the country, made with rusted corten steel. Be sure to check which temporary exhibition is on at the museum, which has previously displayed curated collections of industrial design, architecture, fashion and accessories and by the world’s top designers, as well as retrospectives and many other interesting exhibitions.

Story is a men, women and children fashion label with stores in several malls across the country. Their flagship store in the Sarona shopping compound is located in one of the conserved Templer structures, and you can find much more than just fashion in there. Selling designer products and furniture by international brands like House Doctor, Hay, Mutti and many more, this is a store any design lover in Tel Aviv should not miss out on.

Having earned the title of ‘Best Designed Restaurant in the world’ in 2014, the bistro designed within the new wing of the museum is still going strong, being acknowledged worldwide for its design by architects Alon Baranowitz and Irina Kronenberg. The restaurant is located in the Tel Aviv museum’s new wing, which was designed by American architect, Preston Scott Cohen, and creates an illusion of the museum’s exterior walls being sucked in to create the seating and bar area. The audience of the restaurant is usually made up of museum visitors and people who know to appreciate fine details, both in the design and in the restaurant menu. Numero 13 is a concept boutique set in an old conserved Neve Tzedek building, offering imported fashion from some of the world’s hottest designers. Offering monochromatic furniture, home accessories, textiles and ambience, Fine Lab was founded in Ein Vered Kibbutz and has recently opened its first Tel Aviv store in Shabazi St, Neve Tzedek. One of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in the city, Neve Tzedek isn’t lacking designer boutiques and stores, so after checking out this black and white heaven, wander around its winding paths and browse the best of Israeli designer boutiques.

Much like other restaurants by Israeli star chef, Yuval Ben Neriah, the design at his newest Japanese restaurant, Ya Pan, is just as extraordinary and impressive as the food on the menu. Serving some of the most surprising, beautifully presented and delicious dishes in Tel Aviv, the setting and design of this restaurant, by Pitsou Kedem architects along with Baranowitz & Goldberg architects, cannot be disregarded. It’s also part of what makes this restaurant one of the most talked-about establishments in the city.
