Indonesia’s capital is more than a gateway to the archipelago’s best islands like Bali or Lombok, thanks to these boutique beds and sky-scraping stays – some with private butlers, swimming pools and spas.

The capital of Indonesia is often used by travellers as a brief stop-off – an overnight en route to celebrated beachy islands like Raja Ampat. But Jakarta has more to give than its international airport. Tour the former headquarters of the Dutch East India Company, chow down on moreish nasi goreng or visit bustling Pasar Baru market for its labyrinth of textile and craft shops. Whether you only stay for a night, or decide to hang out a little longer, you’ll need somewhere great to stay. These are the best hotels in Jakarta, bookable on Culture Trip.

1. Raffles Jakarta

Chain Hotel, Luxury

Scraping the skies of Kuningan – Jakarta’s business, shopping and nightlife district – Raffles pulls out all the stops: think luxurious suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, a decadent pâtisserie and an outdoor pool with bar. The spa is one of the highlights of an indulgent stay here, thanks to hydrotherapy facilities galore (steam rooms, vitality pools, ice fountains) as well as techy facials to magic away real-life stresses. Make for the Writers Bar and order a Singapore Sling, invented in the original Raffles in Singapore.

2. Mandarin Oriental

The lobby ceiling of the Mandarin Oriental Jakarta – a geometric jumble of white swirling above a central mirrored column – impresses as soon as you walk through the door. From there on in, this glam stay in the central business area continues to deliver the wow factor. City views spread from suites, dressed in dark woods and sophisticated accents of colour, and a top-notch fitness centre has a Kinesis Studio and the latest tech. As for dining? There are half a dozen options, from a Cantonese restaurant, Li Feng, to Saturday brunch at the Gallic-inspired Lyon.

A quick hop from the MoJa Museum, a quirky gallery space that combines roller skating and art, Hotel Mulia Senayan goes above and beyond when it comes to service: a private butler comes with every room. Opulent suites ooze French regality (and high-thread-count sheets) with a hint of Indonesian flavour, such as tropical plants in some rooms. Laundry and pressing services are included with every room, as is buffet breakfast and evening cocktails for a few happy hours each night.

4. The Grove Suites

On-tap wellness facilities provide a way to unwind after a hard day, with a dip in the swimming pool or a workout in the compact gym.
