The central highlands of Bali, perched between the lush tropical forest and emerald rice fields, hide some dreamy and magical spots. It’s the land of infinity pools, pouring water down the jungle and a perfect place for refreshing both body and soul. Here are the best swimming pools in, and around, Ubud.

Managed by the reputable Alila Hotels and Resorts, this place is arguably the most iconic among their other excellent accommodations. Perched on the banks of the sacred Ayung River and designed to resemble a Balinese village, guests can experience what it’s like to live like locals, only with a luxurious touch. One of the hotel’s best features is the award-winning pool overlooking Ubud’s mighty hills and dense vegetation.

Located 20km from Ubud, Padma Resort is an absolute gem. Insta-worthy pictures all around here: it’s the largest infinity pool in Bali, overlooking the magical bamboo forest of Payangan. The water of the pool is regulated according to the weather: cool during the day, providing the much needed refreshing bliss, and heated when the temperature drops. Perfect for early morning and evening swims. Also, they have a pretty cool bar, the Sunken Pool: do try the tropical fruit smoothies and signature cocktails.

Far from Bali’s buzzing bar scene and seemingly unaffected by the whole world’s affairs, Jungle Fish is the ultimate nature getaway for serenity seekers. The self-proclaimed “no beach … beach club” is like the green and calmer version of the vibrant beachside pools where visitors can bathe in the fresh water, warm sunshine, clear jungle air, or all three at once. The lavish pool is part of the Chapung Se Bali Resort & Spa, but non-staying visitors can enjoy the much-loved facility at a separate rate.

Folk is that surprise in the backyard everyone is keen to find. Located off the back of Jalan Monkey Forest, right behind No Màs Bar, it’s an oasis of relaxation, with bean bags and comfy beds on the grass, or right on the edge of the large swimming pool. But here is the best thing: the bar is IN the pool. You can sit in the water while enjoying your favorite drink. A must for hot tropical days!

The award-winning infinity pool may precede this resort’s reputation, but that’s not the only wonderful thing about the Hanging Gardens of Bali. Nestled in the middle of Ubud’s verdant jungles, guests can enjoy a sweeping view of greens and blues as far as the eye can see. Each villa is designed with natural elements in mind, promoting a sense of calmness in its every detail, from airy terrace to earthy furniture. And that’s for when you’re not out enjoying the hanging pool that stretches over the jungle or enjoying the riverside spa.
