A mansion believed to have been built in 1915 was turned into the National Gallery of Modern Art in Bangalore by the Department of Culture in India. The gallery has works by some of the most famous artists in India, like Amrita Sher-Gill and Jamini Roy. Within the 3.5 acres area there are green lawns and open art displays, making this one of the most beautiful art galleries in India.

Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath is the grandfather of art galleries in Bangalore and one of the best educational institutions for emerging artists. The art complex was founded in the 1960s as a space for art display, museums and art education. There are 13 museum galleries inside the campus with permanent modern, contemporary and folk art. Temporary exhibitions are usually hosted in the five others galleries inside the complex.
