With its rugged, rocky landscape, winding Medieval streets and blend of tradition and contemporary culture, Tbilisi is hot right now. But we’ll help you keep your cool when it comes to picking a place to stay on a budget – here are the best hostels in the city, now bookable with Culture Trip.

Secreted away on the far side of the Black Sea, Georgia is still – for now – Europe’s best-kept secret. And Tbilisi, the country’s ancient capital, is the central launching point for exploring what it has to offer – from snowy mountain ranges to humid coastal forests and some of the oldest vineyards in the world. But first, you need a city base – and that’s where we come in. We’ve been through the city with a fine-tooth comb and picked out the hostels we believe will make your trip all the more memorable.

The Tbilisi Pod is a hostel with a minimalist, stylish interior that proves backpackers don’t need to compromise on atmosphere. With three four-person dormitories (male, female and mixed), guests can enjoy a night’s sleep without getting too crowded. The Pod also runs a cafe with hipster vibes and ideal lighting for digital nomads and remote workers. It’s a great pick for travellers looking to live outside the boisterous city centre while still being close enough to see all that Tbilisi has to offer.

M42 Hostel takes inspiration from photography – it’s named after a lens developed in the Soviet Union. This is more than appropriate, as views right from the hostel, which is located on one of the largest hill slopes in the city, are a major highlight. When not checking out sights like Freedom Square or the nearby Old City, guests can partake in onsite activities like games nights, movie screenings or art classes. For the chill traveller, relaxing on the terrace or in the historic basement cellar will be a must.
