Tianjin’s longstanding history of European influence might lead to you expect its coffee culture to be mature. But like the rest of China, coffee is still a relatively new Western novelty and a characteristic of middle-class consumerism. Sure, Starbucks has well established itself throughout China with almost 200 locations and an average of one new flagship opening per day, but they’re not the only coffee shop in town. Here are the best places in Tianjin to grab a cup of joe and chill.

Maan Coffee

This popular Korean coffee chain asserted itself as the forerunner of airy, almost warehouse-sized cafés decked out with antique chandeliers and armchairs. Maan Coffee inspired numerous copycats to set up shop in China, but in Tianjin, you can experience the original enchanting café for yourself. Open late until 2am.

Caffe Bene

Another South Korean franchise that’s risen to popularity in Tianjin, Caffe Bene is a vivacious café with colorful flowers and wooden chairs that give it a countryside feeling. Alongside coffee and Western food, an array of pastries and desserts can be found on the menu.
