Skiing, hiking and shopping are the three most obvious things to do in Andorra – however, this small country offers a lot more than you’d expect. Here are our top unique experiences to have in Andorra, from sliding down mountains and sleeping in a shepherd’s hut to visiting quirky museums.

Stay overnight in a shepherd’s hut

It’s all very well staying in hotels, self-catering apartments or mountain chalets, but if you truly want to experience something different in Andorra, why not book a shepherd’s hut for the night? Scattered across Andorra’s Natural Parks are around 30 mountain huts, where visitors can spend the night, far away from civilisation and the hum-drum of city life. It might be the perfect spot from which to spot some of Andorra’s wildlife, from golden eagles to wild boar.

1. Slide down the world's longest toboggan run

You may be surprised to learn that Andorra is actually home to the longest toboggan run in the world: Tobotronc, located in the Naturlandia eco-adventure park. It is 5.3 km long and drops a total of 400 metres, so you’ll be zipping down the mountain for over ten minutes. Taking visitors whizzing through the La Rabassa Forest, it also offers spectacular mountain views.

2. Zip-line down a mountain

Try out the longest zipline in Andorra, located at the Mont Magic Family Park in Canillo. The line is 550 metres long and stands 40 metres above the ground, giving you the chance to fly through the Andorran treetops. Downward speeds can reach up to 80km per hour, and you’ll also be able to witness one of the most picturesque views of the Llac del Forn lake.

3. Browse the objects at the Miniature Museum

Museum

Andorra is home to a number of quirky museums, including an Electricity Museum, a Postal Museum and a Perfume Museum, but none is quite so bizarre as the Miniature Museum. Featuring tiny objects by the Ukrainian artist Nicolai Siadristy, it displays many intricate crucifixes and Russian dolls, as well as paintings on grains of rice or seeds. Most of the objects are so small that they need to be seen with a microscope.

4. Visit the Andorra Postal Museum

Another one of Andorra’s quirky museums is the Postal Museum. Located in the village of Ordino, here you can discover all about the evolution of the postal service in Andorra. It features various audiovisual displays as well as a collection of over 50,000 stamps. The museum also explains how it was a postman who delivered the first skis to Andorra.

5. Walk the largest sky trail in Europe

Take to the skies by walking Europe’s largest sky trail – a series of wooden bridges, ropes and ladders, surrounded by forests and mountains. Known as Airtrekk, it’s also located in the Naturlandia eco-adventure park and is set 13.5 metres off the ground. There are over 54 challenges to complete the course and three varying levels of difficulty.

Try your hand at archery

Andorra is actually a great place to try archery, as there are many places you can practice throughout the country. Some of the best places are the Vallnord Ski Resort or the Mont Magic in Canillo.
