Copenhagen Comics

Copenhagen Comics is Denmark’s biggest comic festival and since 2004, and has been taking place every other year. For two days, comic lovers have the chance to take part in workshops and listen to captivating lectures and discussion panels where some of the world’s greatest comic creators unravel the story and secrets of the art of comics. Don Rosa, Jeff Smith, Charles Burns, and Chris Ware are some of the worldwide-known artists that have visited the festival in previous years.

Art Bubble

Meet some of the most known national and international comic creators, get your favorite comic signed, and listen to some inspirational stories at Art bubble in Copenhagen or Aarhus. The comic festival launched for the first time in 2011 and back then was solely presenting Danish and French-Belgian comics. Over the past few years, it has been developed hosting famous guests from other countries as well, such as the U.S. and U.K.

Nordic Game Jam

For game lovers who have at least once in their life thought of making their own game, that is to say, probably all of them, Nordic Game Jam is the place to be. The Copenhagen-based event gathers programmers, game designers, graphic artists, and people with creative ideas and a strong interest in the gaming development and gives them 48 hours to create their own game. Talks, workshops, roundtables, and a mentor café make the two days even more interesting, with participants gaining useful information about game designing by people who managed to make their hobby a full-time job.

The location for this year’s festival hasn’t been announced yet.

Comic Con Copenhagen

Dress up like your favorite comic character and prepare for some funny moments and some serious cosplay at Comic Con Copenhagen. The pop culture event takes place for two days in the capital of Denmark, hosting activities and talks related to movies, gaming, and comics. Visitors will have the chance to discover comics created by independent artists, buy miniatures of their favorite characters, listen to renowned artists’ lectures, and take part in costume play activities with the rest of the geek community.

Bib Bib Bar

At Bib Bib Bar, millennials will discover what games people used to play back in the 90s while guests over 30 will feel a bit nostalgic remembering how fun it was being a teenager in the 90s. With more than 30 arcade & pinball titles, the electronic games bar travels its guests back in time when a pocket full of coins along with your best friend’s company were the basic elements for the perfect Saturday evening.

Viking Con

A roleplay and boardgame convention named Viking-con couldn’t be missing from the home country of the fearless warriors. Taking place since 1982, Viking-con is the oldest festival of its kind and with so many different role-playing games and more than 40 strategy games and tournaments, it’s no wonder that until nowadays, it attracts around 900 visitors.

Game Scope

Learn everything you need to know about game development at Game Scope in Aalborg. Board games, workshops, and lectures from experienced game developers and a room full of new games for PC, consoles, tablets, or phones are available for three days for the festival’s guests.

Fastaval

Every year during Easter, Fastaval invites locals and tourists for five days full of role-playing and card and board games competitions in Hobro, a city in the northern part of Denmark. With so many activities and different kinds of games, all geeks, regardless of age, are welcome and it’s guaranteed that they won’t leave the place disappointed. Fastaval took place for the first time back in 1986 in Aarhus, but at the time, roleplay games weren’t that popular in Denmark, so it was only 40 devotees that grabbed the opportunity and visited the festival to spend some days playing their favorite games with the rest of Aarhus’ geek community. Nowadays, Fastaval attracts hundreds of roleplay and board games fans that head to Hobro for a week full of sci-fi scenarios, workshops, and competitions.

Bastard Café

Every geek would love to take a break from sightseeing and snuggle in Bastard Café for a warm cup of tea and a round with one of the café’s 2,000 board games. The café’s Game Gurus are always happy to explain the rules and get the game started. Bastard café is located in the heart of Copenhagen’s city center so it’s an ideal place for a pit stop and for meeting a bunch of locals.
