While Ibiza’s partying reputation is still going strong, the island is also home to many people who are dedicated to a healthy lifestyle. As a result, not only are yoga studios, wellness centres and juice bars on the rise, but an increasing number of restaurants and cafés are also passionate about serving high-quality vegetarian and vegan food. It’s no longer unusual to see raw or gluten-free options on the menu, and while the number of 100 percent vegetarian venues is still limited, there are now plenty of places where the non-carnivorous can order more than a plate of chips. Here are some of the best.

Wild Beets

Cafe, Restaurant, Contemporary, Vegan, Vegetarian

Wild Beets, in the picturesque village of Santa Gertrudis, is committed to offering a plant-based menu, using organic, locally sourced, seasonal produce. The venue itself is contemporary, bright and airy, and has a pretty, shaded outdoor space. The food is tasty, fresh and often innovative, with many raw and gluten-free options, as well as an impressive selection of juices. If you’re looking to take your juice intake one step further, the café can arrange a bespoke cleanse regime, with specially selected cold-pressed juices delivered to your door.

Casita Verde

Farm Shop, Healthy, Vegetarian

Casita Verde is part of a non-profit organisation and describes itself as an “eco-education centre”, focussing on sustainable living. Set on a farm, with sea views, the centre is open to the public on Sundays, and serves healthy vegetarian food made with produce from the farm. There is also the opportunity to taste and learn how to make, juices and infusions, as well as sample skincare products, enjoy a massage and listen to live music. All money raised on the open Sundays is ploughed back into the project. Food is only served until 4pm, but the farm is open until 7pm.

Eat Is Life

Cafe, Restaurant, Healthy, Vegetarian, Gluten-free

Eat Is Life is on the outskirts of Ibiza Town, and serves organic and seasonal foods in a bright and friendly setting, with an open kitchen; takeaway options are also available. The juice and smoothie selection is huge, but really it is all about the large bowls of delicious and interesting looking salads, pastas and other options to pile on your plate. The food is primarily vegetarian, but there are plenty of chicken dishes, too.

Passion Marina

Cafe, Restaurant, Healthy, Vegetarian, Vegan

Not entirely meat-free, but with an emphasis on raw, vegetarian and vegan foods, Passion is open from 9am to midnight, has delicious selections on the menu all day and serves a particularly good breakfast. The food is fresh, healthy, locally sourced and organic wherever possible, and the various super-food salads and juices are excellent, as are the raw desserts. There are a few branches of this café, but this particular one is right on Ibiza Marina. It’s very relaxed, and is so popular that you will often see the same faces in here day after day.

Plaisir

Cafe, Contemporary, Healthy

The owners of Plaisir have a farm where they grow their own produce, and although this restaurant does serve meat and fish, it’s also an excellent choice for those who want to eat plant-based foods. The food is fresh, healthy, beautifully cooked and delicious, and there are countless vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, including a fantastic selection of gluten-free breads and some raw vegan dishes. Slightly off the main square in the small but popular village of Santa Gertrudis, this café is less touristy than others nearby. In the summer months there is often live music in the garden. The Wi-Fi is good, the coffee great and in general the prices are refreshingly reasonable.

Simbiosis

Restaurant, Healthy, Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-free

This is a fantastic vegan and vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Ibiza Town, with a very pretty outdoor seating area. Relaxed and informal, Simbiosis serves an excellent range of raw, macrobiotic, vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian meals, mainly using local, organic produce. There’s also a menu dedicated to bio-cocktails. The food here is excellent, with the only downside being that the portion sizes are a little small for the price.
