Changi Village is not the most popular area in Singapore for locals, but as the access point for Pulau Ubin, the neighbourhood sees its fair share of hungry people returning from an afternoon of cycling around Singapore’s last surviving traditional kampong village. Before you leave Changi Village, take advantage of being outside the city to grab a meal and a cool drink and enjoy this calmer side of the island.

Changi Village Food Centre

This is the most obvious choice when you’re looking for somewhere quick, convenient, and cheap to eat. The hawker underwent a massive renovation a few years ago, but the good news is that other than structural improvements and additional seating, the centre retains its old-school feel. Although the hawker didn’t receive any recognition from the Michelin guide’s visit earlier this year, some notable stands include International Nasi Lemak, which serves up some of the best nasi lemak across the island from stall #01-03, and Satay Bee Hoon where the same couple has been dishing out a unique fusion of Teochew and Hainanese cuisine for over five decades.

The Coastal Settlement

The Coastal Settlement is a casual eatery nestled in the jungles near the Changi coast. This restaurant has you covered for all taste preferences at any time of day, serving up lunch, dinner, and happy hours daily, as well as brunch on weekends and public holidays. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported back to Raffles-era Singapore as you dine on local dishes with a gourmet twist such as Crayfish Laksa to the always popular, thin crust pizzas.

Bistro @ Changi

With a waterfront location on Singapore’s oldest beach, Bistro@Changi is a lovely place to spend a lazy afternoon or relax after a cycling trip to Pulau Ubin. Watch the ships sail by serenely, or try to guess the origin of planes touching down at Changi Airport. When you’re feeling peckish, be sure to check out their menu of light snacks and main courses including their signature item, the Flame-Grilled Chicken Chop. Bistro@Changi also offers an all day happy hour special on two mugs of Sapporo at $16++.
