Pangkor may be a small place, but if you need a snack, espresso, or a regular pint, Pangkor won’t disappoint. Even better if you don’t mind taking the boat over to Lumut.

Daddy's Cafe

If you want to down your nosh while the sun goes down, there’s no better place to do it. This beachside hangout café serves highly-recommended (even by the locals!) Malaysian and European food, including beef rendang (stewed beef in spices), chicken chop, and mango salad. You may have to wait a little for your food to arrive, but who cares about that when you have the sand and sea for company?

The menu may be limited but this cafe is situated on Coral Beach, where the sand is soft to touch and there are old trees from which makeshift swings hang, and deck chairs in the shade. Food is simple but fresh.

Low-profile is the way this cafe likes it — because when you’re good, who needs publicity? From Mama’s curry chicken rice to garlic bacon spaghetti, and from churros ice cream cups to strawberry-topped cupcakes, this cafe will have you salivating from the moment you step through the door.

Seamoon Cafe

Cafe, American, European, Malaysian

If you like your cakes as much as you like your coffee, here’s your sweet spot in Pangkor. Customizable birthday cakes are Seamoon’s specialty, but you’ll be equally delighted by their mouth-watering array of tarts, waffles, and mousses. Drop by for their afternoon tea sets, and you may be staying until dinner.

Okay, so we cheated. The Farm Cafe isn’t exactly on Pangkor Island, but if you’re willing to work your feet or a few GrabCar wheels, this well-loved cafe will reward you with salted egg croissants, cempedak (a kind of jackfruit) cake, and strong coffee in a rustic boutique setting.

Hightime Bistro

Bar, Bistro, Malaysian

Take a boat trip to Lumut’s man-made island and you’ll find this charming, no-frills – if a little dated – bistro on the beach. Coffee, beer, iced drinks, and pub classics like hot dogs, pizzas, and sandwiches make it ideal for everyone between two and 102 years old.

Get lively with locals and tourists alike at this bistro-bar, especially on Friday’s barbecue night. There’s a snooker corner, a dart board, and a foosball table where you can show off your sedentary-sport skills while picking on delectable pub-style snacks.
