Located in the heights of Barcelona, at the top end of the famous Passeig de Gràcia boulevard, Gràcia is a trendy neighbourhood popular with both locals and travellers. Well known for its culinary scene, it’s also home to a number of the city’s best Asian restaurants. Here are some of the best places for Asian food in Gràcia.

El Petit Bangkok

Restaurant, Thai

El Petit Bangkok is one of Barcelona’s most well-regarded Thai restaurants. The modern dining room is casual but inviting thanks to its multicoloured lamps and bright wallpaper. There are a number of classic Thai dishes on the menu, including various pad dishes (‘pad‘ meaning ‘cooked in a wok’) of which the pad thai is the most famous.

If ramen has been all the craze in Barcelona recently, Fan Shoronpo has introduced the city to a different kind of Japanese speciality. Shoronpo are a special kind of Japanese dumpling which are stuffed with meat (usually pork) and stock. When you eat the shoronpo, it bursts and you get a warm mouthful of meaty goodness. The ramen are also worth trying and the tonkontsu ramen, made from pork bones, is particularly rich and flavoursome.

Momos, Tapes amb palillos - Restaurant

Catalan chef Jordi Brau spent seven years travelling around Asia before he returned to his home country and decided to open a restaurant. Momos is a casual pan-Asian restaurant serving some of Jordi’s favourite dishes from places such as Thailand, China and Indonesia. The menu features red and green Thai curries, Singapore noodles, pad thai, hoisin duck and a selection of dumplings made to order.

Ramen Ya-Hiro is considered one of the best ramen bars in Barcelona and guests should expect to queue for one of the much coveted seats. The different stocks used in the ramen are made fresh on a daily basis and can take for up to 15 hours to achieve the right concentration of flavours. True to the origins of ramen as a popular worker’s dish, Ramen Ya-Hiro is a casual restaurant and dinners don’t tend to linger long once they’ve finished their meal.

Can Kenji

Restaurant, Japanese

Can Kenji is run by a Japanese chef who wanted to recreate the atmosphere of an izakaya –a place where people come to drink and eat after work – in Barcelona. The food is a mixture of classic Japanese dishes such as sushi and Spanish Japanese fusion dishes such as duck breast with foie gras or tuna tataki with salmorejo (a Spanish cold tomato soup).

La Vietnamita Gràcia

Restaurant, Vietnamese

This casual restaurant is one of three places located across Barcelona which serve street-food inspired Vietnamese cuisine. While some dishes are traditional, others are house recipes, such as the bun bao burger – an Asian-style burger made with a mint and ginger meatball and served with crunchy yucca fries. You can also order takeaway from La Vietnamita in Gràcia.

Nomo Gràcia

Restaurant, Japanese, Sushi

This popular Japanese restaurant prides itself on offering contemporary Japanese cuisine in a stylish, modern setting. Though Gràcia residents know this spot as one of the best places for sushi in the neighbourhood, the wide range of other Japanese dishes, including marinated meats and noodles specialities, makes this a versatile restaurant conveniently located at the very end of where the Passeig de Gràcia meets Gràcia.
