Buenos Aires is not traditionally known for its Asian food, meat and Malbec are more the order of the day. But the Oriental food scene has grown consistently in recent years, and there are now many delicious options to choose from, be it sushi, ramen or Thai food. We give you a rundown of the best Asian restaurants in Buenos Aires.

1. Fukuro Noodle Bar

Bar, Ramen, Japanese

Boasting probably the best ramen in the city, Fukuro is packed every night it’s open during winter. They have single-handedly managed to convert a generation of conservative eaters, who have lived entire lives on a diet of milanesa and empanadas, into Japanese soup slurpers. Check out the cool decor by local stencil artist Cabaio.

2. Sunae Asian Cantina

Restaurant, Argentina, Japanese, Fusion

Sunae Asian Cantina originally began its life as Cocina Sunae, a closed-door restaurant run from the home of proprietor Christina Sunae, but is now a fully-fledged restaurant offering a selection of southeast Asian plates from Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

3. Hong Kong Style

Restaurant, Asian, Chinese, Vegetarian, Vegan

Hong Kong Style is the daddy of Chinese restaurants. Located in the center of of Buenos Aires’ Chinatown, it straddles the line between a typical Chinese canteen and an upscale restaurant. Go with friends and order a bunch of plates to share, but go easy on the wine, as it will significantly increase the price of the already substantial bill.

4. Club M Omakase

Bar, Restaurant, Wine Bar, Japanese, Fusion

For straight-up Japanese food, you can’t do better than this tiny sushi closed-door restaurant. Located above a wine bar, Club M Omakase serves up deliciously colorful plates of sushi in an intimate setting, great for dates or catching up with friends.

5. Bai Fu

If you like your Chinese joints down and dirty, with no frills and strange staff, then this place is for you. Like something forgotten from times gone by, the decor and ambience belie the delicious food on offer. Go for the Peking Duck, which is some of the best in the city.

6. Bao Kitchen

Restaurant, Taiwanese, Chinese, Asian, Vegetarian, Gluten-free

If Fukuro has the ramen market covered, then Bao Kitchen is your go-to place for fluffy, delectable buns filled with tasty pork and fresh, crunchy vegetables. They also have great deep-fried and breaded prawns, and fresh salads if you fancy something lighter.

7. Osaka

Restaurant, Japanese, Peruvian

This Japanese/Peruvian fusion restaurant is an old haunt, and one of the best offerings of Asian fusion in the city. Interesting flavors are married with fresh ingredients and classy presentation. It’s not cheap, but such is its solid reputation that it now has two branches, one in Palermo and one in Puerto Madero.
