Presenting another side of bustling Hong Kong and offering travelers a chance to escape the fast pace of metropolitan living, Stanley is popular with those seeking sun, sand and sea in the city. A relaxing day in the neighborhood would not be complete without delicious cuisine: here are 10 of the best places to eat in Stanley.

King Ludwig Beerhall

Located in Murray House, a Victorian-era building that dates back to Hong Kong’s early colonial times, King Ludwig Beerhall is decorated as a classic Bavarian bar with long timber tables, checkered floors and rustic wooden benches. The highlights of this restaurant are the authentic German cuisine and cold beer, while specialties include sausage platters, farm rolls with liver pâté, and herb cream cheese and bratwurst samplers. Don’t miss out on the crisp roast pork back hock, famous for its crunchy shell and tender inside.

The Boathouse

Located in a historical building, The Boathouse is a three-floor restaurant that boasts some of the most eye-catching features in all of Stanley. The cozy environment, amazing view of Stanley Harbor and large selection of marine dishes make it an ideal place for a gathering of family and friends. Specialties include the Greek salad, which is a refreshing appetizer with succulent veggies, and the seafood bucket comprised of lobsters, prawns and mussels. Be warned, the portions are huge.

Mijas

Mijas specializes in fresh Spanish dishes. Ham and salami are always high on the menu, while classic meat platters comprised of Iberian chorizo, fuet salami, air-dried beef, manchego cheeses, and Andalusian olives are a real chart-topper to say the least. At lunch time you’ll find a discounted buffet with a wallet-friendly price tag.

Seafront

Located right beside Stanley Harbor, Seafront is decorated in blue and white, oozing elegant Greek ambiance. The restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor seats, so you can relax indoors or enjoy the famous sea view in the al fresco areas. With an affordable price tag on both beer and food, Seafront is a great go-to place for an evening meal in Stanley.

Si Yik

Hidden behind a fruit stall in the Stanley Market lies one of the neighborhood’s best-kept secrets. With more than 60 years of history, Si Yik is one of the most authentic dai pai dong in the Southern District. Everything from its set-up to its menu is as traditional as you can get. The food stall is best known for its Hong Kong-style milk-tea as well as its toast and sandwiches, in particular their French toast with kaya sauce and pineapple bun with satay beef. However, with less than 40 seats available, expect to wait for Hong Kong’s classic dai pai dong.

Stanley Restaurant

It is a pleasant surprise to find a typical Hong Kong-style tea house (cha chaan teng) in a western-influenced place like Stanley. The restaurant is extremely tourist-friendly, providing a menu with English translations and accurate photos of all dishes, ensuring everyone knows exactly what they’re ordering. The restaurant also provides Chinese and Thai dishes – both excellent. However, it will take significantly longer (20 minutes or more) for international dishes to be served.

Cafe Rouchos

Located at the Stanley Waterfront Mart, this is the place to go if you are a fan of burgers. The food stall provides a wide variety of buns, hot-dogs, fries, pastas, and salads, as well as snacks and waffles. If you love burgers, you cannot miss their trademark “Hawaiian” and “Holy Cow” – both bursting with meat. Other than delicious home-made patties, “The Hawaiian” also comes with an incredibly juicy and sweet pineapple that’s sure to get the taste buds going. Meanwhile, the “Holy Cow” contains two patties and is a double-sized burger.
